In Adamawa, Jonathan begs PDP, traditional rulers for support

Image
President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday met religious and traditional leaders, and key members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Adamawa State, asking for support ahead of presidential elections in two weeks. On his second visit to the state in about two weeks, the president arrived Yola, the state capital, at about 12p.m. before meeting with the Lamido of Adamawa. A source at the palace said “the president had a closed-door meeting with some traditional rulers in the Lamido’s palace for about hour before leaving for Adamawa State government house”. At the government house, the president met with political and religious leaders in the state. Mr. Jonathan later met with members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, including Governor Bala Ngilari, and his deputy. Also present at that meeting were the state PDP chairman, Joel Madaki, the PDP governorship candidate, Nuhu Ribadu, past and present National Assembly members. Mr. Jonathan’s first visit in

How Long are We Going to be Slaves to DSTV? By Ecetera

Image
And here is Ecetera's latest article. He's calling out DSTV this time. Who agrees with him?  I have decided to lend my voice to the call for sanctions against Dstv in Nigeria, despite the fact that I have been cautioned by a couple of entertainers that speaking up against the almighty cable network may result in the banning of my works on its network.  Yes, it is true that challenging these multinationals in Nigeria attracts sanctions especially for entertainers, but I have decided to speak up because I am one of the millions of Nigerians affected by any increment in subscription charges. Moreover, what’s the point of having my works on a platform that my fans can’t afford?  Every entertainer who’s chickened out of this campaign for his/her selfish interest should know that the continuous indifference of Dstv to our plights over the years is a slap on the face of every Nigerian, inclusive of the entertainers themselves. These are the same entertainers

Lekki Robbery Attack: How the Bandits Struck Revealed

Image
It was like an epic Hollywood scene. Five young men, dressed in military fatigue uniforms and wielding AK47 automatic rifles, just emerged from the nearby waterway bordering the lagoon along Ikoyi/Lekki bridge. Their mission was obvious because they started firing from all fronts. It was the peak hour when workers were on their way home. Pandemonium ensued as people ran helter-skelter. Some motorists on top of the bridge nearly plunged into the river safe for the rails that barricaded them. There was mass race towards the Ikoyi  end of the bridge. The race transcended age limit as both the young and old took to their heels. ATTACK ON TARGET According to Vanguard , while this lasted, the gun totting hoodlums proceeded towards their target. There was no doubt that their fire power was to clear way for the accomplishment of their mission. They entered by the lagoon into an empty but fenced land beside a shopping complex which borders FCMB and Stanbic Bank,

American delegates, Nigerian intelligence chiefs clash in Washington over election shift

Image
A mild tussle ensued on Wednesday at a special briefing in Washington DC when members of an American pre-election mission disputed claims by two Nigerian security chiefs that their delegation endorsed postponement of the elections. Giving updates on preparations for the re-scheduled elections, Ambassador Ayodele Oke, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, and Rear-Admiral Gabriel E. Okoi, Director of Defence Intelligence, said the Nigerian government has overcome most of the security and logistic problems that led to the postponement of the election. Mr. Oke said the election delay was occasioned by incidences of criminal violence, widespread tension and Boko Haram insurgency, which were occurring in tandem with considerable shortfall in the electoral calendar. “INEC was having challenges with regards to the distribution of permanent voter cards (PVCs)”, he said, “while another important tool, the card reader machine were not fully yet tested and dep

Dead premature baby came back to life after mum begged to cuddle him for a few last moments

Image
First-time parents Kate and David Ogg were heartbroken when they were told one of their twins - born 2 minutes apart at just 26 weeks - had stopped breathing and had just moments to live. Thinking it was the only time they would have with the tiny boy they had already decided to name Jamie, Kate asked to be able to hold the lifeless child, and told David to climb into the hospital bed for a tender embrace. What happened next was nothing short of a miracle. In this mother's loving arms, the little boy started moving, and his breathing grew stronger. Hospital staff rushed back to his aid and together brought the baby back to life. Five years on, Jamie Ogg (pictured right) is a healthy, happy kid whose biggest problem regarding his troubled entry in the world is having a little brother who tells anyone who'll listen that he used to be dead but now he's alive.  After years of trying to fall pregnant, the Queensland couple were delighted to find out t

Read The Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Interview That Got The Whole Igbo Community Talking.

Image
The Interview that you are about to read is on www.olisa.tv Years ago, before I ever met her, I wrote an intro, in my mind, for my imaginary interview with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Now, I finally get the chance to write that intro, to gush about Chimamanda the person and Chimamanda the world famous author, and I can’t find my qualifiers. When you get through this interview, perhaps you will understand why. Chimamanda takes us on a very personal journey and it does make sense to just let her speak. Olisa.tv : I have been requesting this interview for about a year now and you finally agreed to it. Thank you. Chimamanda Adichie:  I decided I wanted to address certain things and you were the one person I wanted to talk to. So thank YOU. A few weeks ago, the UK Guardian published an article online that you wrote about depression. Then a day later the article was removed. Many people were confused about this. There was much speculation. Some people even
