Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo on Monday donated two million naira to a widow he allegedly insulted while on an inspection tour of the state. The widow, Mrs Joy Ifije, who was invited to the Edo Government House by the governor, was also offered automatic employment by Oshiomhole. Oshiomhole had invited the widow to personally apologise to her over his uncomplimentary remark that had generated controversies in the conventional and social media in the last few weeks.

The outlawed Boko Haram sect on Monday morning attacked the international airport and various parts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. The attack has forced the military to impose a 24 hour curfew on the Borno capital. Unconfirmed reports say a plane was burnt down at the airport. Yakubu Datti, the aviation spokesperson, could not be reached to comment on the airport attack.

Okotie, while preaching in his Household of God Church in Lagos, said the Catholic church is “a counterfeit church set up by Satan” and that Catholics “bow to idols and crucify Jesus every Sunday when they eat bread claiming they are eating Jesus’ body.” “They are not Christians and have never been. They don’t know Jesus. They believe that when they eat bread on Sundays, they are eating the body of Jesus. It’s ritual,” Okotie told a stunned congregation.

OSOGBO — The Debt Management Office, DMO, has put Nigeria's debt as at September this year at $8.2 trillion which he said is 22 per cent of the total Gross Domestic Product, GDP. The Director General of the office, Dr. Abraham Nwankwo, who made this disclosure, maintained that the level of the debt is sustainable. He stressed the need for the government at all levels to encourage private sector borrowing for the development of some key sectors of the nation's economy. Nwankwo also called for cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure sustainability of the public debt profile of the country.

ABUJA — FORTY eight hours to the deadline given by the Federal Government to striking university lecturers to resume classes or be sacked, the union has remained adamant, advising parents not to risk the lives of their children by sending them to the campuses. The Presidency, on its part accused ASUU leaders of treachery and warned the university lecturers not to dare the resolve of government to carry out its threat to sack them if they failed to resume. The Senate President, David Mark has also cautioned the Federal Government over the threat to sack the striking lecturers just as the All Progressives Congress (APC) slammed the government for issuing the threat.
