Enugu — Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State said his decision to recall the non indigenes disengaged from Abia civil service was informed by the desire to have a united country. Orji particularly emphasised on the unity of the Igbo of the South East whose indigenes were mostly affected by the disengagement. The governor spoke at the press week of the Enugu Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, at the weekend.

Danfo Drivers Restricted To 8 Hrs Of Work By Lagos State Gov

Lagos State Government has revealed plans to begin enforcement of a section of the road traffic law which restricts commuter bus drivers from driving for more than eight hours at a stretch daily. Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa disclosed this at the weekend at a news conference heralding the National Council on Transportation conference which kicked off today and would end on Friday at the Lagos City Hall, Lagos, southwest Nigeria. According to Opeifa, section 44 of the Road Traffic Law bars commuter bus drivers from driving  for eight hours at a stretch, saying that government would begin enforcement of the new law in January 2014.

A naked Russian artist nailed his own testicles to the ground in a bizarre protest against his country's authoritarian regime. Self-styled performance artist Pyotr Pavelnsky hammered a large metal nail through his scrotum and into the cobblestones in front of Moscow's Red Square as hundreds of horrified tourists watched on. Police eventually covered him up with a blanket before removing him from the scene. He was taken to a clinic for treatment and placed under arrest. Pavelnsky has previously performed painful protests to highlight political causes. In 2011 he sewed his lips together to highlight the plight of the jailed Pussy Riot group and he later wrapped his naked body in barbed wire outside a government building in St Petersburg.
