another Suicide Bomber Dies In Failed Gombe Attack

A suicide bomber was killed on Tuesday when his explosives vest detonated as he rode towards a security checkpoint in the northeast Nigerian city of Gombe, witnesses told AFP. A huge explosion rocked the Kasuwar Mata area of the city around 6:30 pm (1730 GMT) while most residents of the mainly Muslim city were at evening prayers. A young boy standing by the roadside was injured in the blast. “We were inside the mosque praying when we heard a loud explosion,” said Kasuwar Mata resident Badamasi Mustapha. “When we rushed out we found a motorcycle on fire and dismembered body parts of a man just 100 metres (yards) from the checkpoint.” Mustapha said residents believed the bomber planned to hit the checkpoint, which is manned by a joint military and police squad fighting the city’s notorious “Kalare” street thugs. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Tuesday, said the report of the probe panel he set up when he held sway as the country’s president did not indict the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gen . Muhammadu Buhari of corruption during his tenure as the Petroleum Trust Fund boss. Obasanjo however, said the probe panel discovered that, the Buhari-led PTF was inconsistent in its policies, saying other probe attempts on the activities of the former Head of state ‘was immaterial’. The former President stated this while paying host to Buhari who visited him at his hilltop residence in Abeokuta before his campaign rally at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta. Outrage as Indian Minister Announces Plans to cure homosexuals with training & medicines

An Indian state minister has sparked criticism after he announced plans to open treatment centres for the LGBT community to 'make them normal', comparing homosexuals to alcoholics. According to Hindustan times, Ramesh Tawadkar, Goa's minister for sport and youth, said the government in the popular tourist resort would 'cure' homosexuals with 'training and medicines'. He said  'We will make them normal. We will have centres for them, like Alcoholics Anonymous centres,' Tawadkar said, adding that the Goa government would 'train them and give them medicines too '.  Anjali Gopalan, founder of sexual health organisation Naz Foundation, called minister Tawadkar an 'incompetent nincompoop'. If anyone needs treatment, it's people like him... he should realise he sounds like a complete fool,' Gopalan said.

This is funny. Chinese custom officials arrested a man who tried to smuggle 94 iPhones from Hong Kong into China today Jan. 13th. According to Chinese People Daily, officials decided to search the man after they got a tip-off that there was something amiss when they noticed he was walking strangely. They first searched his bag and when they found nothing, they searched his body where they found the 94 phones strapped to his body.   The man whose identity was hidden, was bringing in the phones from Hong Kong where it's cheaper to buy to sell in China where tax on the devices have made it very expensive for consumers.

14 people arrested over burning of Jonathan's campaign buses

14 people have been arrested in Jos over the burning of two branded buses belonging to president Jonathan's campaign team. The men were arrested by the Special Task Force (STF). The Media and Information Officer of the STF, Ikedichi Iweha, told the media that the men will be interrogated after which those found to be innocent will be released. The police have warned that acts of vandalism will not be tolerated, and people who engage in lawlessness will be arrested.

APC Ask PDP For A Peace Meeting

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended an olive branch to the People’s democratic party and asked for a peace meeting. In a statement released today by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the APC called for a sitdown with PDP stakeholders to help douse the tension that is building up ahead of the election. They wrote that the call is part of their plan, set up since May 2014, when they first asked for such a meeting with the PDP. The statement read: ”Following up on a meeting of representatives of both parties in Washington, DC, US, April 7-8 2014 under the auspices of the CSIS Nigeria Election Forum, at which it was agreed that a joint meeting of both parties be convened to discuss and agree on the crucial issue of a Code of Conduct for the campaigns and the elections, we wrote a letter to the PDP suggesting a bipartisan meeting to address the issue. ”We have since been following up on the letter, the latest effort being

According to reports in China, two-timing dad-of-five Fan Lung, 32, used his wife's phone to send lover Zhang Hung, 21, a saucy email from his marital home in Shangqiu.
