Manchester City 's  Yaya Toure  has been named the African Player of the Year 2014 by the Confederation of African Football at an awards ceremony held in Lagos on Thursday evening.  The Ivoirian won the title for a fourth straight time beating off competition from local favourite Vincent Enyeama and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the title.  In the ceremony, Nigeria produced the African Women Player award, Africa Youth Player of the Year as well as the National Team of the Year. However, it was the Ivoirian Toure who was called up to the podium again winning the award for a record fourth time after previous sucesses  in 2011, 2012 and 2013 Source: Goal.Com

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday stated that the estranged leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) Henry Okah was paid to assassinate him when he masterminded bomb attacks within the premises where Nigeria was celebrating its 50 years independence anniversary. 25 year old Familola Ayodeji (pictured above) has been arrested by the Ekiti state Police command for raping an 85 year old great grandmother on December 25th 2014. According to police report, Familola a resident of No. 17, Oke Ido Street, Ido-Ekiti sneaked into the great grand mother's room, bolted the door and forcefully had sex with her. He initially went into hiding after the act but was caught after a widespread manhunt. Medical examination conducted on the aged woman showed she was raped. Familola is expected to appear in court soon.

In an interview in 2011, Ovation publisher and former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu said Gen. Buhari wasn't qualified to be Nigeria's leader because he was a coup plotter. According to PM News , the woman, Ifunanya Igwebuike was supposed to get married to Ekene Uzoigwe but refused to show up to the wedding on Saturday, 3 January, 2015. Guests were already present to witness the ceremony at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Umuchu in Aguata Local government, Anambra. Uzoigwe and the guests waited for Igwebuike for several hours. A state official in Borno state, Musa Alhaji Bukar told BBC that bodies lay scattered on Baga streets and that the whole town has been destroyed. On Saturday, a military base was run over by the sect members in Baga town.
