Adeboye Now RCCG General Overseer Worldwide

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) on Saturday said Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye remains its General Overseer, Worldwide. A statement signed by Leke Adeboye, the clergyman’s last son and Personal Assistant, said the clarification was coming on the heels of misrepresentation of Pastor E. A. Adeboye’s announcement at the Annual Ministers Thanksgiving held at the redemption camp yesterday that the Church in Nigeria is now to be led by Pastor Joseph Obayemi. Adeboye said the clarification was sequel to the new legal requirements of the Financial Regulations Council, guiding all registered churches, mosques, and Civil Society Organisations. The regulation stipulates that heads of non profit organisations like churches now have a maximum period of 20 years to lead their organisations while in retirement and are not permitted to hand over to their families. Nigerians react as Pastor Adeboye steps down as RCCG General Overseer

This morning, Nigerians woke up to the news that Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has appointed a General Overseer for the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Nigeria during the church’s annual thanksgiving service today.  According to the 74 year old clergyman, Pastor Joseph Obayemi, will oversee the affairs of the church here in Nigeria.  Obayemi was deputy in charge of Finance and a member of governing council, before his appointment. Dialogue: Avengers prepares for war, says ready to “hit and knock enemy hard”

The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) has, Friday, threatened more attacks on Nigerian oil pipelines, saying it has directed all its fighters to prepare for war that they were going to “hit and knock the enemy hard” as it claimed the Buhari-led Federal Government is not ready for dialogue. Recall that the militant group had declared a ceasefire last year after staging major attacks on oil facilities crippling the OPEC member’s oil output in a fight for more oil revenues to give dialogue with authorities a chance. For over six months now, the Buhari-led government has been holding talks with leaders of the Niger Delta to address grievances of poverty and oil pollution in the area. BREAKING: Pastor Adeboye retires as General Overseer of RCCG

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has retired as GO Nigeria. Pastor Adeboye, on Saturday named a new General Overseer (GO), Pastor J.O Obayemi, as his his successor, ahead of his 75th birthday on 2 March.  The new GO Nigeria is Pastor Joshua Obayemi was appointed the new GO at the Annual Ministers Thanksgiving at Shimawa, in Ogun State.  The newly appointed GO was the former Special Assistant to the General Overseer (SATGO) on Finance. Adeboye also appointed Pastor Johnson Odesola, who was the Special Assistant on Administration and Personnel, as the church Secretary Pastor Adeyokunnu as church Treasurer. Adeboye was born on March 2, 1942, in Ifewara, Osun State. FG RESUMES PAYMENTS TO FORMER NIGER DELTA MILITANTS

Niger Delta ex-militants being screened for their monthly stipends by officials of the Presidential Amnesty Programme of the Federal Government in Port Harcourt recently. The Federal Government of Nigeria has resumed payments of cash stipends to former militants agreed under a 2009 amnesty in the country’s Niger Delta oil hub, a government official said on Thursday. The government has been holding talks with militants to end attacks on crude pipelines which reduced Nigeria’s output by 700,000 barrels a day for several months last year. Authorities had originally cut the budget for cash payments to militants to end corruption but later resumed payments to stop pipeline attacks crippling vital oil revenues. “Two months of the ex-militants’ stipends were paid yesterday … The rest of their stipends will be paid later in batches by (central bank) CBN,” said Piriye Kiyaramo, an officer in the government’s Amnesty Office. 25 ITEMS BANNED FROM BEING IMPORTED INTO NIGERIA

There are at least 25 items that have been banned from being imported into Nigeria. The list, circulated by the Finance Ministry on Friday, includes soaps, spaghetti and used fridges. The ban on the items was put in place by the government in 2016, as part of yearly efforts to control import, but is still in place as no new one has been provided for 2017, Festus Akanbi, spokesperson to the finance minister told PREMIUM TIMES. NIGERIAN GOVT. TAKES OVER DIEZANI’S N35 BILLION

Former Nigerian oil minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke yesterday temporarily forfeited $153.3 million to the Nigerian government. This was sequel to an order by a Federal High Court in Lagos. The seized money, according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was stolen from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and stashed in three banks in Nigeria, in US dollars and Naira. Out of the loot, N23.4 billion, another N9.08 billion and $5m were kept in three different Nigerian banks. Justice Muslim Hassan, who gave the order, gave the banks and any other interested party 14 days to appear before him to prove the legitimacy of the monies, failing which the funds would be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria The judge made the order in favour of the EFCC which appeared before him yesterday with an ex parte application seeking the temporary forfeiture of the funds.
