A 70-year-old man, Thursday, allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl in Barkinladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Chris Olakpe, confirmed this on Saturday to journalists in Jos, the state capital. Mr. Olakpe said the suspect, who is HIV positive, was arrested, following a tip off by neighbours; and brought to the state headquarters of the command. "A son of the landlord of the suspect, suspected the act of the 70-year-old man, and alerted the neighborhood," the police chief said, saying that led to the suspect's arrest. The suspect reportedly admitted to the crime and disclosed his HIV status. He then pleaded for mercy. PREMIUM TIMES learnt that residents of the area had gathered to lynch the suspect, but for the intervention of the police. The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old man, Ngwuta Nweke, for allegedly killing his friend in their apartment in the Sawmill area of Ebute Meta. According to the police, the suspect strangled Emeka James during an argument over a cooking pot on March 22, 2014. Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said, “On the fateful day, around 12.30pm, Nweke strangled James who lived in an apartment at Kadara slum, close to Sawmill, Ebute Meta, during a fight over a cooking pot. “The corpse has been deposited at the Mainland Hospital Mortuary, Yaba, while the matter is under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.” The suspect, however, told the police that he did not mean to kill his friend, but only strangled him in a bid to overpower him in a free fight. A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after police found police found the decomposing bodies of seven newborns stuffed in cardboard boxes in her garage. Megan Huntsman, 39, has been charged with six counts of murder after the grim discovery was made at her former home in Pleasant Grove, Utah. The new occupiers of the house called police after discovering the remains of an infant while clearing out the garage, police chief Michael Roberts said. Officers found six more newborn, all wrapped in separate cardboard boxes. Six of the newborns appeared to have died from asphyxiation and the seventh was believed to be stillborn, Captain Roberts said.             "This is unbelievable, I can't even fathom it. It doesn't make any sense at all," Roberts added. Police believe the seven children were born to Huntsman from about 1996 to 2006.
