PDP BoT Member, Victor Attah Endorses APC

The former governor of Akwa Ibom state and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustee member, Obong Victor Attah on Saturday attended the All Progressive Congress (APC) rally at Akwa Ibom and endorsed APC governorship candidate Obong Okon Umana against PDP candidate Emmanuel Udom in the forthcoming elections in Nigeria. Attah told the mammoth crowd in live televised broadcast on NTA at Uyo where the APC grand rally took place that his decision to support Umunna was based on the desire for change in Akwa Ibom. Attah said as a political leader in the state, he had to align himself with the majority of the people who want Umana as their governor. He said despite the fact that he is a member of PDP it was his duty to identify with the wishes of the people of Akwa Ibom. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has revealed how President Goodluck Jonathan repeatedly appealed to him to dump the All Progressives Congress, APC, and return to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party. Atiku said the president pleaded with him three times, once during a surprise midnight visit to his house. The former VP made the revelation in an interview with the Hausa service of the BBC, during which he also explained why he has not been very visible in the campaign rallies of his party’s presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari. President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday in Daura, Katsina State, said the Interim National Government (ING) being touted by some politicians was alien to the Nigerian constitution and such the call is “treasonable”. The President said this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Daura, Umar Faruk Umar, with members of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, top government functionaries and prominent Northern leaders. Daura is the hometown of All Progressives Congress’ Muhammadu Buhari, Mr. Jonathan’s main challenger in Saturday’s presidential election. One soldier dies, 7 injured after troop foil Boko Haram attack on Bama

Defence Headquarters this evening released a statement on how they foiled another Boko Haram attack on Bama, Borno state today, March 21st. Sadly one soldier died while 7 others got injured during the attack. They have been evacuated from the combat area by air and are already receiving medical attention. Many of the terrorists were killed. A Hilux vehicle, other terrorist equipments and some weapons were captured from the attackers. Pursuit is still ongoing while calm has been restored and troops maintain firm control of Bama town. With most of the towns slated to be cleared of terrorists already covered, the campaign to rid the rest of the communities of these militants is continuing with air and land operations now stepped up in the remaining designated locations in the mission area. The incidence seemed bizarre to some who were amazed that a beautiful healthy baby was born by a lunatic while others believed it was simply a miracle from God. It was gathered from eyewitnesses that she had allegedly fled to Shodipo for refuge after having four of her babies abducted by unidentified people. Though it is not known when or where she put to bed, some residents speculated that it must have been at midnight or early hours of Friday due to the state of the woman and baby. Mass grave found in former Boko Haram-held town in Nigeria (GRAPHIC PHOTOS)

Troops from Niger and Chad discovered a mass grave with more than 90 decomposed bodies near a northern Nigerian town recently retaken from the Islamic militant group Boko Haram, security sources from both countries said Friday. The corpses, some of them beheaded, were found in a shallow mass grave under a bridge just outside the Nigerian town of Damasak, near the border with Niger,  Troops from Niger and Chad took back the town from Boko Haram last week during a joint operation, the security sources said. Damasak is in Borno, one of several northern states inhabited by the Islamist militant group. Borno is in the northeast corner of Nigeria and borders Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

APC threatens to sue Fani-Kayode over Al Qaeda, ISIS claim

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation has threatened to sue President Goodluck Jonathan campaign spokesperson, Femi Fani-Kayode, for claiming that the APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, is getting funding for his election campaign from terrorist groups, such as the outlawed Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda and ISIS.  In a statement released in Abuja on Saturday, the organisation accused Mr. Fani-Kayode of perpetuating religious politics, and gave him one week to retract his defamatory comments or face the law.  “Never before in Nigeria’s history has the issue of religion been applied to such sinister purposes as we have seen during the years of President Jonathan’s government,” said Garba Shehu, Director of Media and Publicity of the APC presidential campaign organisation. “When all fails, they whip out the religious card.” The campaign organisation however expressed relief that Nigerians were no more being fooled by what it called “this P
