PHOTOS: Thousands Of Germans Welcome Home Their World Cup Heroes

Germany’s World Cup-winning team were given the warmest welcome and hailed as national heroes as they returned home on Tuesday morning to celebrate the country’s fourth title and the trophy comeback to Germany for the first time in 24 years. At least 400,000 people gathered at the ‘fan mile’ in front of Berlin’s landmark Brandenburg Gate to take a glimpse of the victorious football players who were touring through Berlin in an open-top bus emblazoned with the years they have won the competition – 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014. It would be recalled that Germany won the World Cup on Sunday after Mario Gotze’s extra-time strike secured a 1-0 victory over Argentina at the Maracana. Germany is the first European team to win a World Cup in the Americas. How Thieves kill doctor, rape fiancée as their charms later failed them

A gang of car thieves led by one Solomon Abuede Tuesday narrated how they killed a medical doctor, raped his fiancée and dumped his body in a well. The act was committed at Ekpoma, headquarters of Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State. Solomon said the doctor was first strangulated before they tied his body to a wood and throw his body inside a well. He said they were told to kill any victim with flashy cars. Solomon was among 46 suspects arrested for various crimes across the state since June. He said he has been involved in several car snatching especially at Ekpoma axis. A 61 year old man, Sunday Oviasogie, was named as the chief sponsor of Solomon’s gang. Sunday confessed that he has received over 50 stolen cars and has been in the business for the past 15 years. Another gang, Ehis Ogbefu and Innocent Sunday said a ‘command charm’ they procured for N60,000 failed them. They were arrested at Ewohimin with a Lexus Jeep they snatched in Delta State.

The founder and the General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, has revealed why iOS (iPads, iPhones) and Android devices were banned in his Church some weeks ago. A lot of criticisms had trailed the decision of the pastor to prohibit the use of smartphones in his Church. However, according to Encomium Weekly, the ban was placed by Pastor Kumuyi because the members of the Church were pretending to read their Bibles, but instead they were surfing the web and not paying attention to the sermon. The headquarters of Deeper Life Bible Church is situated at KM 42 on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Nigeria. Pastor Kumuyi is the author of several books. In the early 1970s Kumuyi worked as an education lecturer at the University of Lagos. He was born into a Christian family in Erin-Ijesha, Osun State, Nigeria. Los Angeles Airport officials seized and destroyed giant Nigerian snails

Officials of the Los Angeles International Airport have seized and destroyed a consignment of 67 African snails sent from Nigeria to a resident in the US, saying the snails are poisonous and highly destructive. The snail consignment arrived in the States from Nigeria on July 1st in a blue basket pictured above. The snails according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture are prohibited because they can carry parasites that are harmful to humans, including one that can lead to meningitis. They also say it can destroy local crops. Continue... Maveeda Mirza, the U.S Customs and Border Protection  program manager say they are investigating why an individual would want to consume such an amount of deadly snails. "We're investigating what happened, but it doesn't seem like there was smuggling involved. When someone doesn't know a commodity is prohibited under USDA regulations there is usually no punishment," she said.

Adamawa state Governor Nyako impeached as deputy resigns

Adamawa State House of Assembly members this afternoon July 15th impeached the state governor, Murtala Nyako, following a report by a 7-man investigative committee that probed allegations of gross misconduct and financial impropriety against him. The report, which was read by the State Assembly Speaker Umaru Fintiri on the floor of the House, found the governor guilty of all the 16 allegations of gross misconduct. 18 out of the 24 members of the State Assembly then signed a resolution removing the governor. The House then passed a motion that the Speaker, Umaru Fintiri, should be sworn in as the state’s acting governor. According to reports, that will be done by 4pm today. Meanwhile, the state Deputy Governor who was also investigated by the panel, had resigned his position earlier in the day in a letter he sent to the House of Assembly which was read by members and immediately approved.

Scores killed, churches, houses razed as Boko Haram invades Borno

Suspected members of Boko Haram sect very early yesterday morning July 14th invaded Dille Village in Askira-Uba LGA of Borno State, killing at least five people and razed 3 churches including the Church of Brethern in Nigeria, EYN, as well as shops and residential buildings. Security officials were said to have arrived the village in two Nigerian Air Force fighter jets and killed many of the terrorists. Dille village is around the shores of Sambisa forest.

He's still in court facing charges for the murder of his girlfriend but that didn't stop him from having an incident at a nightclub when a man confronted him about the trial. Don't think this will be good for his case. According to reports, Oscar went to a nightclub in Pretoria on Saturday night with his cousin  after some drinks, allegedly insulted South Africa's president Zuma and started acting "aggressive." He was allegedly pushed into a chair after he poked another clubber in the chest who asked him something about his trial. But last night, Oscar's spokesperson denied he behaved inappropriately inside the club, though she  confirmed he was at the club and there was an incident. Continue... Baby Factory Raided In Isiala Ngwa South L G A of Abia state.

The suspects and the rescued women. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abia State Command, on Monday raided a baby factory, rescuing no fewer than 19 pregnant young women. The home was said to be located at Umunkpeyi in the Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of the state. Security operatives have continued to clamp down on baby factories in the state especially Aba where a popular hospital was recently demolished by government for alleged involvement in the illegal deal. The Abia State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Andy Dateer, while parading the rescued girls and some of the workers in the baby factory, said the arrest was made possible following a tip-off. Apart from the 19 pregnant inmates, NSCDC said three babies, aged two, were also rescued along with four social workers and four young men who were arrested at the premises. How Prostitute sells baby for N20,000 in Bayelsa

An unnamed commercial sex worker in Yenagoa metropolis, Bayelsa State, has sold her one-day-old baby for N20,000. While some people said the prostitute was delivered of the baby on Sunday, others claimed she gave birth last week. It was learnt that the prostitute was said to have arranged for the buyer of the baby before delivery. It was further learnt that as soon as she was delivered of the baby, the buyer, said to have come from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, came on Monday to take the baby. The prostitute was said to have sold the baby to avoid inconveniences and distraction. When contacted, spokesman for the Bayelsa Police Command, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, said police had traced the matter to Rivers State. He said, “I am aware. President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday promised Miss Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl who was almost killed by the Taliban in her country’s Swat Valley District, that he would soon meet with parents of the abducted pupils of Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State. Malala had been targeted by the Taliban because of her girl child education campaign. The Chibok girls had been kidnapped from their hostels by members of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, since April 14. Jonathan told the 17-year-old Pakistani girl that the abducted Chibok girls would soon regain their freedom and that his government would grant scholarship to the girls to study in other parts of the country. Legislators in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday adopted alleged impeachment offences to be served on Governor Tanko Al-Makura. The development coincided with the submission of the report of the panel that investigated impeachment allegations against Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako. Both Al-Makura and Nyako belong to the opposition All Progressives Congress. Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Musa Ahmed, on Monday, directed the Clerk of the House to serve the governor with notice of impeachment for acts of gross misconduct. The Speaker’s directive followed a motion of public interest raised by the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Mr.Yahaya Usman (PDP-Umaisha/Ugya), during the house plenary in Lafia. Man, 40, jailed 4 years for raping 9-yr-old girl

MINNA — A Kontagora High Court has sentenced a 40-year-old man, Isah Makeri, to a four-year jail term without an option of fine for raping a nine-year-old girl.  In the case which lasted about six months, Resident Counsel, Abubakar Suleiman, tendered exhibits and were all upheld by the presiding judge, Justice Yusuf Tanko Usman. Before pronouncing his judgment on the convict, the judge had asked him whether he had a plea to mitigate the sentence but instead he pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of unlawful intercourse with the teenager and asked for pardon. Justice Usman, therefore, convicted him under Section 283 of the Penal Code. Meanwhile, another similar case involving three adults has been adjourned till September 10. They were alleged to have raped a 14-year-old girl in Kontagora town which contradicts Sections 79, 83 and 283 of the Pensl Code. Chief counsel, Ahmed Attahiru, had tendered an application for motion on notice to add one more witness in the case

44years after, Igbo demand N2.6trn reparation over civil war

FORTY- Four years after, the Civil War ,  Igbo delegates asked for N2. 6 trillion as reparation and compensation for the devastation Igbo land experienced during the 1967 to 1970 war. In an amendment to the proposed National Intervention Fund, the South East delegates said the former Eastern region and part of the former Mid-West region which are now in South-East and South-South zones were centres of war, with high level of devastation that brought untold hardship to their citizens. In a document titled: “Atrocities and Injustices against Ndigbo: Ohaneze demand for Reparation” which was circulated with the amendment to the proposed National Intervention Fund, the delegates said it was incalculable to put a price on the death of millions of Igbo who were killed in the civil war and other occasions.
