No more political rallies in Okrika- Ex-militant, Ateke Tom says

Image
Former Niger Delta militant, Ateke Tom, says following the crisis that broke out during the APC governorship rally in Okrika, Rivers state last week, the people of Okrika have decided that there will be no more political rallies in their village. According to Daily Independent, the ex militant said this after a stakeholders meeting with the people of Okrika yesterday February 24th. "The people of Okrika have spoken and I am in support of the position that they have taken. My people have spoken: no more political rallies in Okrika. I am in support of their decision. Who am I to say no? You want them to kill me?   When the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) held their rally there was no problem. But there was violence when the All Progressives Congress (APC) staged their rally in Okrika; there was violence and people were injured and property destroyed. A police man we were told was unfortunately killed. So, PDP and APC, there will be no more rallies in O

German trainer Gernot Rohr has been named coach of the Burkina Faso national football team, a report on the CAF website said on Wednesday. Rohr replaces Belgian Paul Put, who parted ways with “Les Etalons” after the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations held in Equatorial Guinea in January. At the competition, the Burkinabes who were finalists at the previous edition in South Africa crashed out at the group stages. The report quoted a statement by the Federation Burkinabe de Football released on Tuesday night as announcing the new appointment. It said the federation settled for the 61-year old as the best option. Before this, the FBF had named a three-man list which had Rohr, Nigeria’s Stephen Keshi and Milovan Rajevac of Serbia from 38 applications received for the vacant post. The federation said the German trainer would be unveiled to the press in the next few days after the terms of engagement between the two parties are finalised. Rohr was pre

3 Killed As Hoodlums Clash In Oshodi

Image
There was mayhem on Wednesday at Oshodi, a bustling suburb of Lagos, southwest Nigeria, as hoodlums went on the rampage, setting vehicles and houses ablaze.  It was gathered that three persons had been killed while scores of people were seen fleeing the area. The fighting that started at Olosha area between members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and some PDP youths last Thursday spread to Mushin and Oshodi. Since the crises started several lives and properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed. Last week several commuter buses were also set ablaze at a bus park at Oshodi. The crises at Oshodi have disrupted activities in the area and commuter bus operators have avoided plying that area. When our reporter attempted to visit the scene of the mayhem on Wednesday, people were running in various directions to avoid being attacked by the rampaging thugs. When contacted, Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Ke

Nigeria's Problems Won't Be Solved Immediately- Buhari

Image
In a recent interview with ‘Mo Abudu of Ebony Life Tv’, All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari speaks about how he intends to move Nigeria forward if he is elected president. However the former military head of state noted that change will not happen immediately, as Nigeria’s problems did not start overnight. Read the excerpts from the interview below: On why he wants to become president of Nigeria He states that he was persuaded into running for president by his supporters. On how he plans to tackle insecurity He noted that because these problems did not start over night, change will not occur immediately. He also revealed that in the fight against Boko Haram, he would employ the strategy of working closely with neighbouring countries to ensure that Nigeria’s borders are secure. On his ideas for reviving the economy Buhari  stated that the Nigerian economy is too reliant on oil and gas. He proffered that the developme

APC accuses Fani Kayode of organizing protest against Buhari

Image
APC just sent out this press statement. Read below... We have received information that Femi Fani Kayode has paid some boys to mobilize Nigerians in the UK to protest against Gen. Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday (26/02/2015) at Chatham House. This is to create a wrong signal that Nigerians are happy with President Goodluck Jonathan and probably embarrass Gen. Buhari before the international community. The bad light synergy was revealed by one is his agent, and we craving to ask why?   Gen. Buhari is to present a lecture on the same day at Chatham House, London titled: “Prospects for Democratic Consolidation in Africa: Nigeria's Transition”. We hereby urge Nigerians home and abroad to be red alerted of every antics of PDP and its nefarious agents. Femi Fani Kayode attitude is known to all. We cannot afford to keep quiet and let him play by his evil antics.

Why Igbos May Remain Politically Irrelevant in Nigeria

Image
Written by Uche Igwe I took advantage of the break caused by the postponement of the elections to visit a few places in the South-East and South-South zones and directly gauge the perception of the people about the current political developments in the country. The first place was my village in Mbaise, then my mother’s village, both in Imo State. After going to my state, I joined one of my close friends to pay a courtesy visit to one of the riverine villages near Yenagoa in Bayelsa State. Interestingly, some grass-roots politicians showed up during both visits and I took the liberty of the two visits to discuss Nigerian politics with both sets of people – my kinsmen and the kinsmen of President Goodluck Jonathan. During my discussions, it was obvious that President Jonathan has more supporters in Imo and other Igbo-speaking states than even in his home state, Bayelsa. Surprised? Let me state two things upfront... The first is that contrary to the views exp

Guliana Rancic apologizes to Zendaya as Kelly Osborne threatens to leave Fashion Police

Image
Oh shut up Kelly. I don't like people like this. Someone you've worked with for years and have been friends with, why put this out on social media instead of talking to them? This is where - I think - you should show solidarity...not indirectly slamming them on Twitter..and insinuating that they are racist. For those who didn't read this yesterday, while critiquing Disney actress Zendaya Coleman's locs to the Oscars on E! Fashion police on Monday, Giuliana Rancic said 'Zendaya looks like she smells of weed.' Wrong thing to say, I know...and Giuliana has since apologized. (Read  here ). Only for Miss Kelly to go on a Twitter rant yesterday - after Giuliana's apology - to ask everyone involved to do the right or she would leave the show because she doesn't condone 'Racism'. So your friend Giuliana is racist? *hiss*. I have a feeling that if Joan was alive, she'd never have let Giuliana apologize. If they start apologizing
