The Web has long been a haven for numerologists and conspiracy sleuths peddling their alternative analyses of events that shake the world. And today was no different as web users across the globe rushed online in a bid to explain what really happened to the doomed Malaysian Airlines passenger plane . Russia Today sparked a fever of speculation last night after publishing a report that claimed the doomed flight was flying almost the exact same path as Putin's presidential plane did less than 40 minutes later. It quoted a source as telling Interfax news agency: 'I can say that Putin’s plane and the Malaysian Boeing intersected at the same point and the same echelon. 'That was close to Warsaw on 330-m echelon at the height of 10,100 meters. The presidential jet was there at 16:21 Moscow time and the Malaysian aircraft—15:44 Moscow...

How I managed to stop a mob from burning 3 alleged kinappers

Image
This happened around Idimu-Egbeda, Lagos. I was on my way back home this morning when I saw a pack of okada men dragging some people out of a car in front of me, two men and a woman. I was in my car watching, thinking they must have actually bashed an okada man, as it was the norm in Lagos state, where an offense against a bike man is an offense against all the bike men in like 5 communities, they would pack you down and start harassing you. So I thought at first, until they started beating them with woods and sticks, kicking them from all directions, while some where destroying their car. I had to come down at this point after carefully packing my car at a safe spot. I managed to part the crowd, asking what happened, The shout of 'they are kidnappers' rented the air, so I managed to go into the crowd which was swelling by the minute to take pix of them. Continue... After this, I asked an okada man what happened and how he knew they were kidnappers, he managed...

My Defeat In Ekiti Not Due To Stomach infrastructure – Fayemi

Image
While announcing his launch of the book, Fayemi explained that he decided to attend the event himself and purchase copies of the book because “maybe it will redeem my image of what people say we are. Forget what you read from the arm chair analysts, there is nothing called stomach infrastructure in Ekiti. That story will be told another day, not for this occasion.” Ekiti state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has debunked insinuations that he lost the 21 June governorship election because of what analysts have called ‘stomach infrastructure’, saying the insinuations are the handiwork of people he described as “arm chair analysts.” The governor made the assertion at the 70th birthday lecture and book presentation in honour of Professor Olatunji Dare in Lagos. “Forget about what you read in the papers, it is not stomach infrastructure,” he said in a veiled reference to the outcome of the Ekiti state governorship polls. While announcing his launch of the book, Fayemi explained ...

PDP Govs caution Jonathan not to declare his ambitions yet

Image
President Goodluck Jonathan has been advised to tarry a little, before attempting to declare his second term ambition. Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, stated this at a meeting they had with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday night. Though the governors   were in support of the President’s bid for re-election, they said the nation’s mood was not ripe for such a declaration. Investigations by our correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday and Wednesday showed that the meeting considered the plight of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls and security challenges facing the country. It was learnt that based on these two major issues, the governors asked the President to study the mood of the nation more before considering an open declaration for re-election. Two of the governors, who were at the meeting and spoke with our correspondent separately, said that the President was advised to either visit Chibok or in the alternati...

Apapa gridlock: Nigeria lost over N1.3bn in two weeks

Image
PRESIDENT of the Shippers’ Association of Lagos State, Jonathen Nicol, has said that the two weeks traffic gridlock which grounded business activities in the port city cost the industry over N1.3 billion. Speaking with Vanguard in Lagos, Nicol said that all sectors of the industry were affected aversely during the period of the traffic lock down. The Shippers’ Association boss explained that for the period, the Nigeria Customs Service, Terminal Operators, Shipping Companies, Clearing agents, Shippers, truckers, amongst others did next to nothing and that definitely affected their revenue. According to him, the traffic jammed “directly resulted in partial congestion and once there is congestion the volume of income will dwindle. We must have lost about N1.3 billion during the period which is an enormous lose.” On the cause of the traffic gridlock, he said the bulk of the problem is human related and that is why it took government just two days to temporarily solve it. He...
