Image
Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola was a guest on BBC's Hard Talk on Tuesday August 2nd where he was interviewed on issues of national development, power, corruption and his administration as governor of Lagos state.  Reacting to former UK Prime Minister, David Cameron's comment that Nigeria is a fantastically corrupt country, Fashola said; "I think that the former Prime minister was speaking tongue in cheek because if this country places host to the reception of stolen properties, then there is a moral issue, very strong moral issue and if I remember my criminal law, its is as much as an offence to receive stolen property as to actually stealing and I think that all of those who make those kind of comments and become havens for proceeds of corruption need to do a rethink. Mr. Dogara subsequently announced that he had removed Mr. Jibrin from his position as Appropriations Chairperson. Mr. Jibrin, however, maintained that he had stepped down f...

MRI tests have been used for several years to prevent age fraud in football, and are considered 99% accurate up to the age of 17. "It is a disaster,” a Nigerian official told the website. He also says there is a Western plot to Christianize the region and has accused charities of using their aid for that, according to a SITE Intelligence Group translation of an interview published Wednesday in the Islamic State newspaper al-Nabaa. The newspaper identified Abu Musab al-Barnawi as the new “Wali,” or governor, of its so-called West Africa Province. The “Wali” title was previously used to describe long-time Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau. The interview with al-Barnawi indicates a major shift in strategy for the Nigerian extremists, who have killed many more Mus...

The minister for finance (Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala) came to my office in Abuja here and pleaded with me that I shouldn’t say it again. “So I knew as chairman of governors’ forum, that we had gone into recession under Goodluck (Jonathan),” Amaechi was quoted as saying.  FACT: Nigeria was not in recession under Jonathan First:  What is recession? Naming of new Boko Haram leader is just propaganda - Defence HQ

Image
The Defence Headquarters has described the naming of a new leader for the Boko Haram group as propaganda by terrorist group, ISIL. Defence spokesman, Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar, said this while reacting to yesterday's report by BBC that the Islamic State in Syria and the Levant (ISIL) has named Abu Musab al-Barnawi as the new leader for Boko Haram. According to Rabe, the announced change in leadership of the terrorist group would not in any way affect the military’s operations nor cause it to lose focus. “It is the desperation of a drowning man, he gropes for even his shadow. The group knows they are on the losing side. They are using every available propaganda to remain relevant. What we have achieved is not propaganda, the reality on the ground is that they are decimated,” he said.
