Benue Killings: Senate Rejects Report On IGP's Failure To Arrest Perpetrators.

T he Senate has rejected a report by its ad hoc committee mandated to find out why the IG of Police did not comply with an earlier directive from the Senate to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of killings in Benue State. The Upper Chamber rejected the report presented by the Chairman of the committee Senator Abu Ibrahim for failing to speak with the Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, to get his own side of the security issues in the state. The Upper Chamber has refused to consider the report, instructing the committee to speak with the state governor and report back in one week. The Senate had on January 16, 2018, issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Ibrahim Idris, to investigate and arrest the perpetrators of the Benue attacks that led to the death of over 73 persons. BREAKING: Reps order IGP, Idris to apologise to Gov Ortom for calling him ‘drowning man’

T he House of Representatives on Wednesday ordered the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, to apologize to Governor Samuel Ortom over a derogatory comment by the Force spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood. The lower legislative chambers gave the directive while currently debating a motion on the bills by herdsmen in Benue State. Featuring on Channels television, Moshood had yesterday described Ortom as a “drowning man.” The Force spokesperson made the remark while faulting some comments made by the governor, following crisis between Fulani herdsmen and farmers.

Fulani herdsmen: Miyetti Allah leadership apologizes to farmers

M iyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN, Imo State chapter has apologized to farmers in the state over the damages done by their cattle. MACBAN’s Chairman in the state, Audi Dikko issued the apology during a meeting with some traditional rulers at the Imo Police Command, Owerri, the state capital. The meeting which was convened at the instance of the State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, had in attendance, Imo monarchs, farmers, leaders of Miyetti Allah, herders and some government officials. Speaking during the event, Diko, however, expressed shock at the pains of different communities as explained by the traditional rulers on the behaviours of herdsmen. According to Diko, “I want to apologise to farmers in Imo State. Imo State is a peaceful state and we have been living peacefully with the people of the state.
