The federal government on Thursday realised over N60 billion as individuals and groups donated to the Victims of Terror Support Fund launched in Abuja. The fund is expected to be used for the rehabilitation of victims of terror attacks across the nation. Over 13,000 people have been killed in attacks by the Boko Haram sect while hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced and thousands of property destroyed. Speaking at the fund raising dinner on Thursday Night, President Goodluck Jonathan said his government would neither “give in to nor give up on terrorism” but will rise up to the occasion and “defeat the evil philosophy” which the terrorists represent. Mr. Jonathan announced the federal government’s donation of N10 billion to the fund. He said in the fight against terrorists, Nigeria and Nigerians have two choices: to sit down and bemoan the action of terrorists or stand up and fight it. “By this fund raising initiative, we have chosen the later,” he said. “

Oliver Fraser Lown A vet who was filmed having sex with a horse and a dog has been struck off. Oliver Fraser Lown, of Kesgrave, Suffolk, was found guilty of five charges of serious professional misconduct by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) disciplinary committee at a hearing in London this week. Lown had already admitted seven criminal charges of possessing “grossly offensive” pornography involving people and animals at a Yorkshire court in September 2011, the East Anglian Daily Times (EADT) reports, for which he was given a conditional discharge. When Lown appeared before the RCVS panel he was accused of engaging in sexual activity with a horse and a dog between 1 April 2009 and 25 June 2009 and then boasting about it online. He was also accused of being in possession of sexually explicit still images of animals and footage of a man having sex with a sheep. The prime suspect in the killing of 39 year old Lizzy Njideka Nzewe, Kelechi Williams, an indigene of Umorji, Anambra state, has been arrested in Cote D'Ivoire. (Read how it started HERE ) Kelechi, 33, is accused of strangling Mrs Nzewe to death at her Green Estate Amuwo Odofin resident in Lagos on Monday July 21st. She was until her death a manager at Edmark Nigeria limited, and was a divorced mother of 4. She was in a relationship with the killer as at the time of her murder. Police claim Kelechi is a serial killer with a criminal past. He was formerly based in South Africa where he was declared wanted by the South African police after committing a series of crimes. A male giraffe has been killed after it hit its head on a bridge it was being driven under. The blindfolded animal - which was in the back of an open truck with a female giraffe - suffered catastrophic head injuries, but according to one eyewitness, the driver initially failed to notice it had happened. For instance, the World Health Organisation (WHO) recently announced that as at 23 July 2014, the Ebola epidemic had claimed 672 lives. Furthermore, there are currently 1201 suspected and confirmed cases across West Africa. In terms of intervention, the current strategy appears to be related to the use of universal precautions: case isolation, hand-washing, and health worker protection and palliative treatments (such as pain management, and rehydrating fluids).
