JAMB to announce cut off mark for admission August 22

T he Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, will hold a policy committee meeting on August 21 and 22 to determine cut off points for admission into various courses in Nigerian tertiary institutions for 2017. Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, on Sunday said he had given the Board approval to hold the policy committee meeting on 2017 admission. He said the meeting will kick-start the 2017 admission exercise. The policy committee will announce the cut off points at the end of the meeting. “All stakeholders including vice-chancellors of universities, rectors of polytechnics and mono-technics and provosts of colleges of education would be in attendance,” he said in a statement. T he Federal Government on Sunday disclosed that it has withdrawn the nomination of two members of the Board of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC. Those whose nominations were withdrawn are Maimuna Aliyu and Sa’ad Alanamu. The disclosure was made by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Acting President, Laolu Akande, via his twitter handle. Anambra church shooting linked to indigenes living abroad, Governor says; visits scene

G overnor Willie Obiano of Anambra has vowed not to rest until the perpetrators of Sunday’s killings at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Ozubulu, near Nnewi, which claimed at least eight lives and injured 18 persons are brought to justice. Mr. Obiano made the vow when he visited the scene of the killings in company of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Garba Umar. The governor expressed grief over the death of the worshippers, describing the attack as “barbaric, sacrilegious and totally unacceptable”, while also debunking speculations of possible invasion. According to him, intelligence report linked the shooting to an existing feud existing between some members of Umuezekwe Ofufe Amakwa community of Ozubulu living abroad. “It is an isolated case and I urge worshippers in the Church and residents of the area to go about their normal activities.” Mr. Obiano assured the community that his administration was on top of the situation and later visited the inju

Police sources revealed that their preliminary investigation shows that it is a drug related gang case in which the father of one of the gang leaders had been a target during today’s attack According to reports, The gunmen that carried out that shoot out are alleged assassins in search of a drug lord called “Bishop” and the father of that Bishop. The Gunmen went to church and in the process of shooting the man’s father, shot other people. A t least eight people were killed at least one armed man on Sunday stormed the St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, the police have said. Witnesses initially said the attack was carried out by gunmen, but the police have now clarified it may have been carried out by a lone gunman. A witness told the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday that the gunmen went into the church during the 5:45 a.m. mass and identified a particular man and shot him. He said they later went on rampage and shot at the remaining over 100 worshippers. Several people were killed in the church while other critically injured worshippers died on the way to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi. Speaking on the attack, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Garba Umar, said the remains of the dead had been deposited at theNnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi.
