F ormer Chelsea, Inter Milan and Barcelona striker, Samuel Eto’o, has denied the report that he paid for tickets for Cameroonian immigrants back to Libya. The former Cameroon striker, while refuting the claims, said the ‘rumor is profoundly unfounded’ He wrote, “Several sites have circulated a rumor that I would have given money to every migrant returnee, in relation to a topical issue. This rumor is absolutely unfounded! “I would therefore take advantage of this opportunity, dear brothers and sisters, to emphasize that love prevents more evils than money can solve. “So let’s not waste our precious time looking for thrills at the expense of grieving people, but let us use this time to prevent other brothers from being deprived of their dignity. “Let us not just react when we can prevent, because among these victims are certainly people who have been our neighbours at some point, but to whom we have not daigné to look kindly. “Let us build our Africa by ha

A bdurasheed Maina has a “valid US passport” among his three travel documents, the Nigerian immigration service has said. Mohammed Babandede, comptroller-general of immigration, told a house of representatives panel on Thursday that the former chairman of the presidential task force on pension reforms has not entered the country since 2013. He said the service started keeping tabs on Maina on September 27, 2013 “when he was departing from the country through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and was stopped because of the letter from the EFCC”. Babandede said: “Prior to that time, Maina was never on our stop list so he was never stopped until that time. “He has three passports. The first one was an official one, expired not renewed. His current passport is valid until 2018. He also has a valid US passport to expire August 26, 2020. “During our system audit trials, we discovered that Maina has travelled many times. W inifred Oyo-Ita, head of service, says Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms (PTFP), was never reinstated into the civil service. She said this on Thursday during a hearing of the house of representatives ad hoc committee probing Maina’s reinstatement. Oyo-Ita explained that she received a copy of a letter from the office of Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation, giving a directive for the reinstatement of Maina. She added that since she neither released nor delivered the letter to Maina, it stands that he was never reinstated. “I just want to make a point that the reinstatement of Maina was never activated and this actually evidenced by the letter number 29, that is the letter from the federal civil service commission to the head of the civil service of the federation dated 7th November 2017,” Oyo-Ita said. “Allow me to read paragrapgh two and three of the letter: The federal civil service commi

Russia Rejects US Call To Cut North Korea Ties

R ussia on Thursday rejected a US call to cut ties with Pyongyang, suggesting Washington has been doing everything to prompt North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un to “lose it”. On Wednesday, Washington warned that North Korea’s leadership will be “utterly destroyed” if war breaks out as it called on countries to cut all diplomatic and trade ties with North Korea. The latest threat came after North Korea tested its third ICBM, which it claimed was capable of striking anywhere in the United States. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov poured scorn on Washington’s call to cut ties with North Korea and introduce new sanctions against it. “We see this negatively,” he told journalists in the Belarusian capital Minsk. “We have repeatedly stated that the pressure of sanctions has been exhausted.” He accused the United States of seeking to provoke Kim Jong-Un’s regime and demanded to know whether Washington was plotting to destroy the isolated country. “It’s as if the recent
