250 Ebola volunteers return to Nigeria, EVD free

Image
About 250 Ebola volunteers from Nigeria arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Sunday morning alive, hail and hearty, amidst shouts and songs of victory. The volunteers joined in the fight against the deadly Ebola Virus Disease in some countries in the West African sub-region. A chartered Ethiopian Airline, carrying the returnees, who helped in the containment of  EVD in Liberia and Sierra Leone, landed in Abuja after being delayed for about nine hours in Freetown over documentation problems. The flight was scheduled to arrive NAIA,Abuja by 7.30am on Saturday, but was not airborne until three hours later in Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone. The aircraft landed at 2.38am on Sunday morning at the airport, carrying the 250 volunteers, who were deployed in the West African sub-region on December 3. They each had with them a commemorative plague from Liberian government, bearing the inscription, ‘The Love of Liberty’, a message of gra

Patience Jonathan fuelled my conflict with President, PDP – Amaechi

Image
The Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, on Sunday said his disagreement with President Goodluck Jonathan was fueled in part by the President’s wife, Dame Patience Jonathan. He said this after the premiere of a documentary on Amaechi years at the Silver Bird Galleria, Abuja. According to him, the President and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party would have taken him to the cleaners, if they had anything incriminating against him. Amaechi said, “We had a disagreement in principle between me and the President. Have you seen a country where the Commissioner of Police is reporting to the wife of the President? It’s in Rivers State. “Have you seen a country where the Brigade Commander or the Navy Commander or Air Force Commander is reporting to the wife of the President? It’s in Rivers State.” He explained that he was convinced that such conduct would not help in the development of any nation, saying he took a stand against it. Amaechi stressed t

I did not dump my baby daddy because he was sick-Uche Ogbodo

Image
Uche Ogbodo has opened up on her failed 'marriage'. The actress however insists they were never married and contrary to reports from his family that they were married and she abandoned him when he fell ill, she says didn't leave him because he was sick. She told the Sun Well, we have broken up but when I saw it in the news it made me laugh a lot because it shows how fake and wicked people can be. That I have not come out to say anything about my relationship and my baby daddy or whatever does not make the story which is one sided true. It is a one angled story. You haven’t heard my own side of the story and I am not saying anything about it because I have a child; there is a child between me and this guy. I am not going to tarnish somebody’s image because we are not together anymore. I have a child, Chinagorom, for him so if I do anything stupid, I will be hurting my baby as well.  Before I do anything I think about my child because she means the world

Double Betrayal- Mum gets engaged to daughter's boyfriend(Photos)

Image
At 19, Heather’s world fell apart when she found out her mother  Helen, 41, was having a relationship with her boyfriend Tom, 24, and the pair had become a couple. To add salt to injury, Tom and Helen, who later got engaged, have won custody of her six-year-old son.Heather told the  Sunday People: “That woman stole my man and now she’s stolen my son. It’s sick. It’s as though she is trying to steal my whole life from me.Never in a million years did I think that my own mother would treat me like this.As a mum myself it goes against every instinct in my body to do anything that would hurt my child. It’s also really sinister, like something out of a horror film.I’ve already lost the man I trusted enough to have a child with, and the one person who was supposed to look after me.Now they’ve taken my boy from me I don’t know how I will go on.” At first Helen disapproved of Tom. She feared he was a bad boy involved in drink and drugs – but her attempts to thwart the budding ro

BOKO HARAM: Only 6 of 275 rescued females are pregnant – NEMA

Image
The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Muhammed Sidi, has said that only six of the 275 females rescued from the Sambisa Forest in Borno are pregnant. Speaking at an interactive forum organised by a non-governmental organisation, 1 Nigeria Initiative, in Abuja on Sunday, Sidi said the speculation that most of them came out with pregnancy was not correct. “I must put it on record that only six of them came with pregnancy and we must be very careful not to stigmatise these innocent Nigerians. “This is necessary so that we do not end up stigmatising the child that is yet unborn. I think we must respect their rights,” Sidi advised. He said that 70 per cent of the rescued females were children below five, while 63 of them could not identify their relatives. “It is a terrible situation to have children under five unaccompanied, meaning that they have lost their parents and we cannot link with their parents at the momen

Airtel releases statement, says fuel scarcity is affecting their services

Image
Press statement from Airtel Nigeria... Airtel Networks Limited wishes to inform our customers and the  general  public that the prevailing situation in the country regarding the scarcity of diesel and other  petroleum products  is presently impacting negatively our commitments to delivering best-in-class quality of service and seamless telephony experience to all Nigerians. While we are currently doing everything within our means as well as going the extra mile to ensure that all our base stations and switches are up and running, it is sad to note that it is becoming increasingly difficult to replenish current stock of diesel due to the lingering scarcity of the products. We are also concerned that, if the situation persists, it may have adverse effects on our network, impacting both voice and  data services . Airtel, therefore wishes to assure all customers that we will continue working with all our partners and stakeholders to mitigate any negative impact as we

Photos: How a man was nearly kidnapped by ritualists today

Image
Story as it was sent to me. Read below... It was a terrible experience this morning at my farm located at Odoyanta, Ijebu Ode. I just finished feeding the fish, so on my way back I heard a loud noise and the noise was coming from the father of the boy working for me although the man speaks in Igbo language. I had to ask the boy working for me to translate what his father said. He told me that his father said there are ritualist in the bush that they've taken someone from a fish farm nearby. That we should come out on time. It happened that the ritualist tried to kidnap a fish farmer. They have succeeded in beating and chaining him like a dog. It was while the incident was going on that someone in the bush saw them and quickly ran back to town to alert guys in the community.   They were able to arrest two out of the three ritualists and the last one escape. The woman who is iyalode in the town was behind the operation Here are the pictures: pic 1 and 2 are

Fuel Scarcity: Ifeanyi Ubah’s Capital Oil to release 13 million litres fuel

Image
Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited, said it is releasing about 13 million litres on Sunday night, approximately 400 trucks of petroleum products including premium motor spirit, popularly called petrol, to ease the scourge of the endemic fuel scarcity that Nigeria had been plunged into. Additional 53 million litres will also be released in a few days, making a total of 70 million litres from Capital oil. The move has therefore, broken the ranks of oil marketers and depot operators, who have refused to import any more products until their outstanding subsidy claims of over N200billion is paid by the Federal Government. Read full statement below On Saturday 16th May 2015, we received an SMS ordering the suspension of loading activities in all depots from Monday 18th May 2015. We later realized that this directive was as a result of unpaid funds owed to transporters by oil marketers who in turn are owed by the Federal Government. This development has resulted

'I don’t know what fuel subsidy means' - Buhari

Image
In a new interview with  Daily Trust , President elect, Buhari expressed reservations over claims by the government of subsidizing the petroleum sector. He spoke on how during his time as Military leader, they were able to make fuel available at all times. Below are excerpts of what he said in the interview One burning issue is fuel subsidy. I believe you are aware of the queues in major cities like Lagos and Abuja. The fuel importers say they are unsure of the direction of the new government in this area. Have you considered maintaining or withdrawing this subsidy or are you questioning whether it didn’t exist at all? One of the problems I have, other than the military, is the petroleum industry where I served for three and a half years under General Obasanjo. When people start talking about this subsidy I honestly get confused. I will tell you this, and I hope it will answer what you want to know. Back then we had a refinery in Port Harcourt, which was refining 30,000

Okonjo-Iweala, vows not to pay unverified subsidy claims as Fuel Scarcity bites hard

Image
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has vowed not to pay oil marketers their subsidy claims, accusing them of presenting fraudulent claims with various exchange rates. She said the marketers subsidy claims reeked of fraud and that the marketers are just out to blackmail Nigerians and make them suffer. She said this while addressing newsmen in Abuja yesterday May 23 "Marketers were asking for N159 billion for exchange rate differentials from the outstanding N200 billion. There has been so much fraud and scam so I have refused to sign for that money but have agreed that a committee be set up involving the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to verify marketers’ claims. Marketers just want to make Nigerians suffer. I will not pay the N159 billion without verification, Nigerians should not allow themselves to be blackmailed. I will not pay the N159 billion without verification, Nigerians should not allow themselves to b

Buhari reportedly rejects Rolls Royce from Nigerian Embassy in UK

Image
President elect Buhari who left Nigeria for the UK on Friday May 22nd reportedly rejected the Rolls Royce car the Nigerian Embassy in the UK made available for him as he arrived London. A member of his entourage who spoke with The Nation said after exchanging pleasantries with the Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK, Dr Dalhatu Tafida, the president-elect politely told them that his visit was strictly private and he had made arrangement for all his needs while in the UK. He thanked them for the warm reception and quickly hopped into a less flamboyant car he had arranged for and drove out of the airport. “It appeared he was uncomfortable with the number of exotic cars in the convoy. Hard as the stunned diplomats present tried to convince him, he refused to bulge, insisting that since he did not inform the Commission of his visit because it was not an official trip, hence he was not entitled to such grandeur.”the source said
