Kabiru Shehu (pictured above) was killed by some pirates who attacked a military station at Nembe, Bayelsa State on Friday August 7th. Three soldiers and one policeman also died during the attack. Confirming the attack, the spokesperson of the Bayelsa police command, Asinim Butswat said the pirates carted away two HP guns and other arms from the base.

Armed robbers snatch Mohammed Babangida's wife's car in Kaduna

According to  Sahara Reporters  , armed robbers early yesterday Saturday August 8th stole a black colored 2015 Mercedes Benz S550 belonging to Mohammed Babangida's wife, Rahama, in Kaduna. ccording to a report by   According to a senior officer in the Nigerian police, the robbery took place in Ungwan Rimi area of the town. Mrs. Babangida & members of her security detail were unharmed during the daring robbery The police source explained that the armed robbers forcibly snatched her car at gunpoint before taking away unspecified amounts of money and other valuables from her. The source told SaharaReporters that the armed robbers had probably followed Mrs. Babangida before they stole her vehicle. It was also learned that in addition to her car, the robbers stole an official rifle belonging to a member of her security detail.

A woman decided not to wear a tampon while running the London Marathon on her period to encourage women across the world to be proud of their periods. Kiran Gandhi, 26, let her period flow freely during the 26-mile race in a bid to raise awareness about people who have no access to feminine products.She urged women to embrace that time of the month, rather than hide away in shame. And after the race, she proudly posed for photographs with family and friends wearing her blood-stained running trousers. Two students of Madon­na University, Akpugo Campus, Enugu State, have told the horrifying story of torture they suffered in the hands of key officials of the tertiary institution. The duo, Stanley Okoye, 23, a final year Civil Engineering student and Ga-Lim Aondofa Lord, escaped death by the whiskers after they were allegedly abducted from their rooms February 3, 2015, in the dead of the night, in commando fashion, by the Chief Security Officer of the university, Okey Ogbonna and the Dean of Student Affairs, Rev. Fr. Isaac Nginga, a Catholic priest, in company of others and taken to a secluded area on the campus, where they were tortured, brutalized, dehu­manised and left to die, but through divine intervention, they lived to tell the story. Though they survived the ordeal, they are still undergoing treatment for the almost fatal injuries they received in the hands of their tormentors. EFCC: 2 arrested over seperate plans to steal seized $2.1m NHIS cash

Two persons have made separate attempts to claim the $2.1m (about N418million) cash seized by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The NDLEA had on July 3 intercepted the cash which was being conveyed by a bureau de change operator, Mr. Ibiteye John Bamidele. Following his confession that he was on money laundering errand allegedly for a former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Dr. Olufemi Thomas, the NDLEA had on July 8 handed over the suspect and the cash to the EFCC. Investigations by SUNDAY PUNCH on Saturday reveal that two different persons have showed up at the Lagos office of the EFCC to claim the cash. A man's escape from police cell and re-arrest is generating controversy. Wasiu Saka, 30, was a notorious car robber in Ondo State and his mode of operation was to apply as a driver to un-suspecting employers and, after securing employment, abscond with their cars. After stealing cars from his employers in Lagos State, Saka will drive to Akungba-Akoko, his home town in Ondo State, to show off that he had ‘arrived’ and live big after which he would sell the car at a ridiculous price and return to Lagos for another car theft operation. He was arrested by detectives from the Ondo State Police Command last month with a Toyota Hiace bus marked, Lagos JJJ 94XD. The group of commercial sex workers held the candlelight procession in honour of their colleagues murdered by an unknown customer. The victim was identified as Sitira. During the procession, they ventilated their grievances on the spate of the killing of prostitutes in Abeokuta for ritual purposes. Sitira, 23, was said to have been murdered last Sunday by suspected ritual killers while her remains were dumped at a refuse site. IT firm denies receiving N78 million for Fashola’s website

The IT firm named by the Lagos State procurement office as receiving N78 million for the upgrade of former Governor Babatunde Fashola’s personal website, has denied being paid the amount. Info Access Plus Limited said its quotation for the job was N12.5 million, and that the state eventually spent N10 million. The figure contradicts details released by the Lagos State procurement office, first reported by the budget analytic firm, BudgiT. The listing shows N78 million was spent on the website. Curiously, for a company that specialises on building and upgrading websites, a Google search for Info Access Plus, revealed that Info Access Plus Limited has no website of its own. According to information technology experts, www.tundefashola.com, created by the firm for the former governor, is a WordPress website and an upgrade could not have cost more than N300, 000. The news of the expenditure has elicited outrage from Nigerians, with many using their social media accounts
