I t's a new Legislative day in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Senate President Bukola Saraki took the official prayer and led the chamber into today's proceedings. EXECUTIVE SESSION Senate now moved into an Executive Session at 10:51am. Senate resumed from its Executive Session at 12:24pm. Dino Melaye: INEC serves Senator with recall notice at his office

T he Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has served Senator Dino Melaye with a notice in regard to the ongoing recall process against him by his constituents. Officials of the electoral body delivered the recall notice to the office of the representative of the Kogi West senatorial district as members of the National Assembly resumed from recess on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. The issuance of the notice is in accordance with Justice Nnamdi Dimgba's directive to the commission to serve the lawmaker with the petition, the full list and signatures of constituents in support of the process. This was after the Kogi lawmaker had filed for an injunction against the commission conducting the recall process against him after a total of 188,580 electorates in his constituency petitioned for his withdrawal from the National Assembly. North Korea's Foreign Minister accuse Donald Trump of declaring war on his country

T oday, North Korea's Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho accused US President Donald Trump of declaring war on his country by tweeting over the weekend that North Korea "won't be around much longer."  "Last weekend Trump claimed that our leadership wouldn't be around much longer and declared a war on our country," Ri said while speaking with reporters in New York. He continued to say, "since the United States declared war on our country, we will have every right to make all self-defensive counter measures, including the right to shoot down the United States strategic bombers at any time even when they are not yet inside the aerospace border of our country," Ri said.

Illegal importers of 661 rifles plead guilty

T wo of the five men being prosecuted by the federal government for unlawful importation of 661 pump-action rifles into the country, have indicated their intention to enter into plea bargain. The defendants, Mahmud Hassan, Oscar Okafor, Donatus Achinulo, Matthew Okoye, said to be at large, and Salihu Danjuma, had been arraigned by the Attorney General of the Federation on June 14th before the Federal High Court in Lagos. They had pleaded not guilty to eight charges against them, while the trial judge, Justice Ayokunle Faji, refused their bail applications in view of the ‘gravity of the charges’ leveled against them. At the resumed hearing of the case Monday September 25th, two of the suspects, Oscar Okafor and Donatus Achinulo, who had changed their lawyers, indicated their intentions to change their plea from not guilty, to guilty. The judge directed the defendants to notify the AGF of their intention and adjourned till September 26th.

PHOTOS: Lagos Govt Provides 120 Generators To Police

T he Lagos State government has donated 120 new 5KVA generators to the Lagos State Police Command to power all police formations across the state. The state governor, who made the donation on Monday in Ikeja, also pledged his continuous support to security agencies to ensure optimal performance. He reiterated the commitment of his administration to enforce the rule of law and safety of lives and property in the state, just as he said that his vision was for the state to be among the safest places to live and work in Africa. Governor Ambode, who was represented at the brief handing over ceremony by the Chairman of Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Mr Oye-Hassan Odukale, said the state government would not relent in coming up with initiatives and programmes to guarantee the safety of the people. He said the generators were procured by LSSTF to ensure police formations in Lagos State work optimally in their mandate of safeguarding lives and property.

Biafra: Nigerian government publishes (Gazetted) IPOB’s declaration as terrorist group

T he Federal Government has gazetted the order of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which proscribed the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and declared it a terrorist group. The FG, through the Central Authority Unit of the Federal Ministry of Justice, had commenced moves to notify banks, Nigerian embassies abroad and foreign missions operating in Nigeria from further relating with IPOB. A five-page document was reportedly printed and published by the Federal Government Printer in Lagos on September 20, 2017. The document was signed by the AGF. It is titled, ‘Terrorism (Prevention) (Proscription Order) Notice, 2017’ and contained in Volume 104 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Official Gazette. It warned Nigerians that any person or group of persons participating in the activities of the group “in any manner”, would be violating the provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act, 2011 as amended in 2013 and would be liable to be prosecuted. “NOTICE IS HEREBY
