President Jonathan, Buhari hold closed door meeting in Aso Rock

President Jonathan and General Buhari had a closed door meeting at the new Banquet hall in the President's office in Aso Rock earlier today. This will be the first time the two will be meeting after the election. The reason for their meeting has not yet been revealed.

Niger Delta militants at is again, as they blew up pipeline in Delta state

A Niger Delta militant group identified as  Urhobo Gbagbako, has blown up the  NPDC Oil  pipelines at Ighrenene, Afiesere and Ekiugbo communities in Delta State. In an email sent to reporters claiming responsibility for the bombing which occurred yesterday April 2nd, the spokesperson of the group,  Priest Omodjuvwu, said the group, which consist of ex-militants, men, women & children of Urhobo origin, decided to blow up the oil pipeline following the continued neglect of the Urhobo militants  in the pipelines protection contracts offered to ex-militants from other ethnic groups.  Spokesperson of the militant group, Mr Omdjuvwu said  they decided to blow up the pipeline to draw g overnment attention and demand to be included in the pipeline protection contracts. "We have now resumed attack on the NPDC pipeline facilities on a massive scale, which scale of bombings shall be unprecedented,” the email read. ...

A model and artist who wanted to get the stark truth about people’s reactions to nudity decided to find out by walking around a busy city stark naked. Paula Brindisi, 30, stripped off in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires and showed off her assets as her photographer pal snapped her going about her day-to-day business in front of shocked locals. The nude-obsessed model, who was arrested in 2005 after stripping off with three men but was later cleared after the judge ruled she was working on an artistic project, said she came up with the idea after seeing people walking around naked in Barcelona, Spain. She said: "It’s basically a photographic project that started in Barcelona and continued in Buenos Aires. "It picks up the reactions that people have when seeing someone naked doing the same things as people wearing clothes." Kano Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Abdullahi Mukaila who alongside his wife and two daughters died in a mysterious fire (though police have since said there was no foul play) in their home early this morning have been buried. The funeral prayer was conducted in Dutse central Mosque, and in attendance were the chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, Governor of Jigawa State Gov Sule Lamido and Emir of Dutse among others. Ladipo Market boils as thugs attack traders

Ladipo Market, the biggest auto spare parts market in Lagos State, located in the Mushin area of the state, has been turned into a battle zone after some hoodlums unleashed mayhem on traders and customers. No fewer than three people were said to be injured, while no fewer than 12 vehicles parked by the roadside were reportedly vandalised by the rampaging thugs who invaded the market on Wednesday. PUNCH Metro learnt that the gangs also hauled pebbles and bottles into the market and as traders fled their shops, they carted away their goods and emptied their safes. An eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Emma, said the chaos began around 6pm on Wednesday. It was said to have lasted till around 7pm after some soldiers intervened. Speaking with newsmen this afternoon, CP Ibrahim Idris said preliminary investigation carried out by the police suggests that the fire might have been as a be as a result of an electrical fault. Nigerian Army has found Buhari's certificate?

According to an APC leader, Sen. Tokunbo Afikuyomi, the Nigerian Army has found the certificate of Gen. Buhari. The former Senator shared this new development on his twitter handle today. The certificate of Gen. Buhari generated a lot of controversy after the Nigerian Army came out to say they didn't have it. The Nigerian Army has however not confirmed that they've found the certificate.

'I will be leaving office in June - Prof. Jega says he has no interest in continuing as INEC chairman

INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega says he will be leaving office in June this year when his tenure as Chairman of the electoral body ends. In an interview with BBC Hausa, Professor Jega said even if he is asked to continue in office, he would not. "I am grateful to God. I was asked to come and contribute my own quota to the national development and I have done my bit to the best of my ability. Whatever assignment one will do for five years, just like this difficult one to me, if one is able to successfully accomplish the task, someone else should be given the opportunity. Because for me I am not interested & if I am requested to serve again, I will not do it, by God’s grace" he said. Prof. Jega came into office in 2010 after the tenure of predecessor, Prof Maurice Iwu, expired.

French President phones Buhari, invites him to Paris

French President Francois Hollande spoke with President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, on the telephone on Thursday and invited him to Paris for discussions on the expansion of trade between France and Nigeria. A statement by the French Embassy in Abuja said the French leader congratulated Buhari on his success and noted the peaceful and fair electoral process which had enhanced Nigeria’s democracy. “The French head of state assured the President-elect of France’s wish to continue the close relationship that existed with his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, and reiterated France’s support for Nigeria and its neighbours in their efforts to combat the terrorist sect, Boko Haram,” the statement added. Hollande also expressed his wish to expand trade between France and Nigeria and invited his Nigerian counterpart to Paris. Scores Dead as Suicide Bomber strikes Gombe Motor park

According to reports,a suicide bomber struck a bus station last night,killing no fewer than 20 people at a motor park in Gombe. Muhammad Garkuwa, a drivers’ union official confirmed to the AFP. We had an explosion outside the motor park this evening around 8:30pm which killed five and injured 15 others“The explosion was from an explosive left by a woman in her handbag beside a bus waiting to convey passengers to Jos,” he said in an account supported by a nearby food seller. Garkuwa said he loaded the casualties into a vehicle while Yusuf Darazo, who sells food near the bus station, said the female suspect left her bag after being told the bus’s destination. “No-one suspected her. Al-jazeera Journalists sue Nigerian military for illegal detention

Two Al-jazeera journalists, Ahmed Idris - a reporter and Ali Mustapha - a camera man, both pictured above, have instituted a lawsuit against the Chief of Army staff, Gen Kenneth Minimah and the Nigerian military for what they term the infringement of their fundamental human rights following their illegal detention by the Nigerian military. They filed the suit in an Abuja high court this morning Both men are being detained in their hotel in Maiduguri, Borno state where they have been kept since March 24th over allegations of loitering around areas where combat operations was still ongoing. According to their legal representative, Mr Femi Falana, the journalists are seeking a declaration from the court that their arrest and continued detention by the military is illegal and unconstitutional, thereby violating their right to personal liberty guaranteed by Section 34, 35 and 41 of the constitution and Article 5, 6 and 12 of the African Charter on Human and peoples’ Ri...

Italian Police find bullet-riddled body of Nigerian woman Culled from: The Citizen Ng

 The Italian police said they were called to a scene of a crime where they found the bullet-riddled body of a woman near a bicycling trail in woods between the Tuscan cities of Lucca and Pisa. The body was discovered by tourists in a pine forest near Torre del Lago in Lucca province. The woman had five gunshot wounds. The body has been identified as that of a Nigerian woman aged 46. But the police didn't give her name. Italian police said they are investigating her murder and hope that an autopsy will help them find traces of her killer. The police say they believe the murdered woman was a prostitute.

INEC Resident Commissioner, wife, children killed in “strange” fire

The Resident Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Kano, Mikaila Abdulahi, is dead. Mr. Mikaila, who oversaw last Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections in the state, died in a fire incident described as ‘strange’ by neighbours. Mr. Mikaila’s wife, Zulaiha; and two daughters, Aisha and Asmau; were also killed in the incident, neighbours told PREMIUM TIMES. The spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, Magaji Majiya, confirmed the incident. Mr. Majiya, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the INEC commissioner and his family died as they tried to escape through the window of their apartment. He said the fire was suspected to have been caused by a spark in the family’s generator at about 4 a.m. on Friday.
