A judge has granted a request from WikiLeaks' most famous informant, the soldier formerly known as Bradley Edward Manning, to have her name formally changed to Chelsea Elizabeth Manning. The Leavenworth County District Judge David King allowed the name change in a one-minute long hearing, according to the Associated Press. Manning will now officially be known as Chelsea. Manning formally requested her name to be changed last month, but she announced that she is female and wanted to be known as Chelsea last year, after being sentenced to spend 35 years in prison for leaking hundreds of thousands of secret documents to WikiLeaks. "Today is an exciting day," Manning wrote in an open letter published on the Chelsea Manning Support Network website. "I've been working for months for this change, and waiting for years."

According to boxing promoter, Martins Osaile, the Lagos National Stadium’s facilities have degenerated tremendously due to lack of maintenance. He alleges that the stadium is now a home for prostitutes. “The National Stadium, Lagos has been turned to a brothel. Someone there built rooms all around the place and it is prostitutes patronising the place. “They (government officials) know about what is going on but they don’t care because they hire the place to people. All the under of the steps (of the main bowl) have been converted to small rooms, where they practice prostitution,” he told Punch. Built in 1972, The National Stadium, Lagos was was once a world-class venue, hosting several international competitions. 

The fate of over 200 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram from their hostels at Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, northeast Nigeria, still hangs in the balance as the Islamist fighters have threatened to kill them if their parents do not stop the search for the girls. One of the parents of the girls who disclosed this, said 200 of the parents had embarked on the search for the girls on motorcycles but were warned to stay away from Sambisa forest where Boko Haram has its camps or risk being killed along with the girls who were kidnapped on 14 April. According to one of the parents, “We were over 200, but when we reached a point after crossing a rickety bridge, we were warned that though we were close to our daughters, any further advance would anger the suspected terrorists and they might kill us and our daughters. We had no option but to abandon the mission and return.”

An object has washed ashore in Western Australia that may be linked to missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, Australian officials have said. Australia's joint co-ordination centre announced on Wednesday that police had taken possession of an object 10km from the town of Augusta. Malaysian officials have also been provided with photographs of the object. "The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is examining the photographs of the material to determine whether further physical analysis is required and if there is any relevance to the search of missing flight MH370," the joint coordination centre said. An Australian search official involved with the search has stressed they were treating the discovery of the object with scepticism.

The man, whose identity is yet to be revealed, was allegedly arrested at the Upper Sokponba road area of Benin with cut to size gun, different human parts and N4 million cash. It was reliably gathered that the man had lived in a make-shift apartment for close to two years, pretending to be a madman. According to one of the landlords in the area simply identified as Pa. Onaiwu, who spoke to journalists, the suspected ritual killer was in the habit of behaving funny especially when it is getting dark. “This man sometimes behaves funny. In the afternoon, you will see him bathing naked, behaving like a real madman.

In the wake of the Nyanya bomb blast which occurred on Monday April 14th, which killed over 80 people, military checkpoints have been mounted at various strategic road junctions to check human and vehicular activities in the FCT.   Motorists/workers say these checkpoints have become a big problem for them as they lose many useful hours in traffic with some of them getting late to work and receiving queries.   According to a report on Channels TV, residents in Abuja say their fear is in the manner in which the military men carry out their search operations. They say the traffic opens them to a possible attack from Boko Haram men who can take advantage of the gridlock and strike again. A popular clairvoyant in Adamawa State, Alhaji Alhassan Mohammed Goni, a.k.a. AMG, has threatened to expose the sponsors of Boko Haram insurgency if  the group does not suspend the current bloodletting and hostilities in the country within two weeks. In a report by Leadership The spiritualist expressed sympathy for President Goodluck Jonathan, saying the president is a good man and those that are targeting his administration will fail woefully. He said having been disturbed by the bloodletting and seemingly inexorable hostilities by the group, he deemed it fit to come forward, and warned that if those behind Boko Haram fail to change their ways, he will soon expose them. Goni added that among those sponsoring Boko Haram activities are top politicians and traditional rulers  with the sole aim of causing confusion in the country.

A police sergeant (names withheld) has been arrested in Anambra State for allegedly raping a 13- year-old daughter of a popular pastor at Nkpor in Idemili Council Area of the state. The young girl, said to be two months pregnant told her parents last Saturday who was responsible for her pregnancy. According to a close family source, who does not want to be quoted, the girl told her parents that the policeman had threatened her against telling anyone about the affair. The source said the threat made her keep the secret until few days ago when she complained to her mother about some symptoms, which after thorough investigation led to her confession of being pregnant. According to reports, the policeman initially denied the allegation and was supported by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, which made the victim’s parents to petition a human rights group and the state Commissioner of Police.

Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr's wife of 20 years has filed for separation citing irreconcilable differences. TMZ reports that Sara Kapfer, Cuba's high school sweetheart, filed yesterday April 22nd in L.A. County Superior Court. The two married in 1994 and have three children together. Sara wants joint legal and physical custody of their kids and isn't asking for child support currently.

D'banj visited Nyanya blast victims today April 22nd, where he reportedly donated several gift items to the victims and settled some hospital bills. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the entertainer visited the victims at the Asokoro District Hospital, Abuja in company of the FCT Health Secretary, Dr Ademola Onakomaiya. During his visit, D'banj said the government alone cannot do all that is required for peace to reign in the country. "I am a Nigerian and I am affected by any tragedy that befalls us and particularly in the spirit of Easter, I came to show the victims support. I have seen that the survivors are responding positively to treatment and thanked the medical team here for the efforts. "We are appealing to the perpetrators of these acts to have a rethink and support the peace initiative so that our people would not be subjected to such wickedness,” he said.

JINDO, South Korea (AP) — The grim work of recovering bodies from the submerged South Korea ferry proceeded rapidly Wednesday, with the official death toll reaching 146, though a government official said divers must now rip through cabin walls to retrieve more victims. The victims are overwhelmingly students of a single high school in Ansan, near Seoul. More than three-quarters of the 323 students are dead or missing, while nearly two-thirds of the other 153 people on board the ferry Sewol when it sank one week ago survived. Even with more than 150 people still missing, the funeral halls in Ansan are already full, Oh Sang-yoon of the government-wide emergency task force center said in a statement. He said the center "is taking measures to accommodate additional bodies by placing mortuary refrigerators at the funeral halls in Ansan," and directing mourning families to funeral homes in nearby cities.
