Photos: Meet Chierika Okogu, the first athlete to represent Nigeria in Rowing at the Olympics Games

US-based Chierika Ukogu will be making history at the 2016 Olympics Games, being the first rower to represent Nigeria. Born on October 1992, Okogu, who is a graduate of Stanford University, said in a recent interview that the sport had been challenging but she will put in her best, adding that her training with members of the U.S. team at the Vesper Boathouse at Schuylkill, Philadelphia had helped develop her skills. "It is my ultimate goal to be the 1st Nigerian to row at the Olympic Games. Heading into Rio, it's a really wonderful opporunity for Nigeria. Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State said on Wednesday he attended the peace meeting organised by the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, because of his commitment to peace and development of the state. The IGP had on Tuesday in Abuja organised a peace meeting between Wike and the former governor of Rivers State, Mr Rotimi Amaechi. Amaechi is the current Minister of Transportation. The Independent National Electoral Commission had announced the postponement of the legislative rerun in the state earlier slated for Saturday following the burning of its office in Khana LGA. Wike told PDP supporters at the Rivers West Senatorial District rally in Degema LGA that his administration would implement the resolutions of the peace meeting. Breaking News : Asari Dokubo’s first wife, Zainab died in a car accident

Alhaja Zainab Asari Dokubo, the first wife of Mujahid Dokubo Asari, is dead. She died alongside a friend in a motor accident on her way to Ibadan.  Alhaji Ishaq Kunle Sanni, chairman Oyo state Muslim community, who confirmed the death in a statement said Zainab was already a Muslim years before she married Dokubo. He recalled that Zainab, who lived in Ibadan had to relocate to Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa when she was appointed Secretary of the Muslims Pilgrims Board.  “Even then, there was hardly any month she was not in Ibadan for one Islamic programme or the other.  “She was a member of many Islamic organisations in Ibadan including Oluyole Muslim community under the Imamship of Imam Mudashir Bada.  “It is interesting she was coming to her preferred town Ibadan when she met her destiny. “She was survived by four children Amirah, Hassan, Hussain and Osama.  “May Allah accept her multifarious and multidimens...

Sacked House of Representatives Appropriation committee chairman, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has reacted to the legal threat from speaker Yakubu Dogara. Reacting via his twitter handle, Jibrin says he will not retract his allegations against the speaker. He also says his lawyers have notified EFCC and ICPC about the matter. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has given sacked chairman of the House committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, a 7-day ultimatum to retract all the allegations of corruption padding he leveled against him since he was sacked form office or face legal action. Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole's former Commissioner of Transport, Orobosa Omo-Ojo, has made some shocking revelation on the administration of the comrade governor in a book,  “Breach of Trust, An eyewitness account of political events in Edo state before and under Adams Oshiomhole’s watch”. According to a report on Daily Sun, Omo-Ojo who has since fallen apart with his erstwhile boss, explained his sack as Commissioner in January this year, saying that his removal was because he refused to divulge details of his meetings with some perceived enemies of Governor Oshiomhole. The Zoning Committee of the party yesterday submitted its report on the zoning arrangements of the 21 available positions up for election between the North and the South at the party's National Convention in August. Buhari appoints Nwalem Mbam as chair of Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission

President Buhari has approved the appointment of Elias Nwalem Mbam from Ebonyi state as the Chairman for the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). Mbam's appointment is contained in a statement released form the office of the secretary to the government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal yesterday July 26th. The statement also adds that President Buhari also approved the appointment of Marilyn Amobi as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET). Both appointments is with immediate effect.

Dogara fights back; House accuses ex-Appropriation chair, Jibrin, of budget fraud

The House of Representatives on Tuesday gave further explanation for its decision to replace the Kano lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jibrin, as chairman of House Committee on Appropriation. The House said Mr. Jibrin was removed last Wednesday for his “incompetence, abuse of budgetary process and serial betrayal, including a ‘proclivity to blackmail'”. In the explanation, which was detailed in a press release by its spokesman, Abdulrazak Namdas, the House said Mr. Jibrin’s “highhandedness” could no longer be tolerated, hence his dismissal. Mr. Namdas also responded to Mr. Jibrin’s allegations that Speaker Yakubu Dogara severely padded the 2016 budget to the tune of N40 billion.
