Guests at the funeral mass included former Interim president, Ernest Shonekan and wife of former Ekiti state governor, Mrs Bisi Fayemi. Dr Abimbola Silva died peacefully on July 19th. Alex Badeh, the immediate past commander of the Nigerian military, has revealed that the effectiveness of the fight against the militant Islamist group, Boko Haram, was greatly hampered by fifth columnists within the military who leaked sensitive information and operational plans to the terrorist sect. Mr. Badeh, whose hometown, Mubi, was briefly captured by Boko Haram in 2014, was speaking on Thursday during his valedictory ceremony from the Nigerian Armed Forces. While speaking at an interactive session with Nigerians living in Cameroon during his 2-day working and friendly visit to the country yesterday July 29th, President Buhari said his administration would ensure the faithful implementation of the Green Tree Agreement, which regulates the ceding of Bakassi to Cameroon. Since Nigeria allowed the case to go to court (ICJ), and we lost, we have to abide by it," he said while responding to a question from a Nigerian on the issue. The Bakassi Peninsula lies between the Cross River estuary and the Rio del Ray estuary on the east of Cameroon. It was ceded to the Cameroonian government on October 10th 2002 following a judgement by the International Court of Justice.

The House of Representatives has urged the Buhari administration to reopen investigations into unresolved cases of high profile political and extra judicial killings in Nigeria. The essence of the charge to the Federal Government, the House resolved, is to bring the culprits to justice. In a motion titled, Need To Undertake Further Investigations Into Cases Of Extra Judicial Killings And Other High Profile Murders, raised by Kingsley Chinda, he noted that the extra judicial killings were allegedly being carried out by men of the Nigerian Police Force, and personnel of some other security agencies and unknown gunmen. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested the immediate past Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency [NIMASA], Patrick Ziakede Akpobolokemi, two weeks after he was fired from his post. A source in NIMASA told PREMIUM TIMES Mr. Akpobolokemi was arrested in Lagos Thursday morning and was detained at the Lagos office of the EFCC in the Ikoyi area of the city. “He was taken in this morning around 10 a.m.,” the NIMASA insider said. “Some of our other officials have also been summoned while EFCC operatives have been conducting discreet investigation here. As part of efforts to rid Nigeria of Boko Haram terrorists, troops of 21 Brigade and elements of Nigerian Army Engineers yesterday cleared a notorious terrorists camp at Chuogori and Shantumari, Borno State. During the offensive operations the fleeing terrorists left underground silos.  In addition, troops of 151 Task Force Battalion conducted operations on Kashingeri, Wale and Kushingari Boko Haram terrorists camps today. During the raids, quite a number of the terrorists were killed, a Landrover vehicle and a Tipper were recovered. The troops also rescued 59 civilians that were held captive by the terrorists and cleared the camps.
