An attacker got more than he bargained for - when his chosen victim floored him twice with her martial arts skills after he tried to rape her. The unidentified restaurant owner was attacked by the would-be rapist as she was closing the empty shop in the eastern province of Shandong, China. She let the man into the eatery when he knocked on the door and asked to use the toilet, The People's Daily reported. The man tried to grab her - but had a shock of his own when she used her self-defence skills to overpower him. CCTV images from inside the restaurant show how the woman, who was wearing a mini-skirt and heels, pinned her attacker to the floor and put her hands around his throat - warning him to leave her alone. Eze Ndi Igbo in Lagos reacts to Oba of Lagos anti-Igbo comment

According to PREMIUM TIMES , The Eze Ndi Igbo in Lagos, Nwabueze Ohazulike, has appealed to Igbo residents in the state to remain calm ahead of Saturday’s gubernatorial election. In a press conference at his palace in Lagos, Wednesday, Mr. Ohazulike said that he was not part of the group of Eze Ndi Igbos who paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Lagos on Sunday. “Eze Ndi Igbo of Lagos State, the head of the Eze Ndi Igbo structure in Lagos State, had no knowledge and was not involved nor invited to the so called courtesy visit to the first class Oba. This speaks volumes,” Mr. Ohazulike said. “The Igbos have a long history of cordial relationship in Lagos State with the Yoruba community and other Nigerians and shall continue to cherish such relationship and make concerted efforts to protect and enhance it and to continue to promote the spirit of unity of Nigerians, love, peace and inter-ethnic harmony in the state.”

The presidential and National Assembly elections in Akwa Ibom State were systematically rigged, an anonymous group in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) alleges in a petition to the chairman, Attahiru Jega. And results for next Saturday’s election have already been written, the group, “Concerned Staff of INEC, Akwa Ibom State”, said in a petition dated April 6. Kenyan govt freezes accounts of suspected financiers of Al-Shabaab

The Kenya Government has frozen the bank accounts of 86 entities and individuals suspected to be financiers of terror group, Al-Shabaab following the killing of 147 people in Garissa on April 2nd. According to the spokesperson of Kenya's Interior Ministry, Mwenda Njoka, the move is designed to choke the flow of money to the Islamist terror group Al-Shabab. Owners of the 86 accounts have also been put on a government watch list. Al-Shabab has carried out multiple attacks in Kenya in recent years, and has warned that more will come unless Kenya withdraws its troops from Somalia.

Court orders DStv to suspend increase in subscription fees

In March, MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, owners of DStv announced a 20% price increase for all its satellite pay TV bouquets in Nigeria. Multichoice said the increase, which was supposed to take effect from April 1st, was necessary for them to continue offering good quality programming to its subscribers. But the increase is not going to happen for now after a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos restrained the company from increasing the tariffs. The restraining order was given at the court following a class action suit filed by two Lagos-based lawyers, Osasuyi Adebayo and Oluyinka Oyeniji, challenging the increase. The judge said there should be no increase until the court meets on April 16th to hear the case.

An unidentified young man with earphone on, was on Wednesday killed by a passenger train at Cappa area of Oshodi, Lagos. The man was standing on the rail track oblivious of the fast approaching train. The Ogun-Lagos-bound mass transit train was leaving its Oshodi station to Mushin when the accident occurred. The train had as usual, sounded its horn repeatedly as it was approaching the railway crossing at Ilupeju Bye-pass for clearance According to an eyewitness, the man who had his earphone on was apparently carried away with either the call he was receiving or listening to music. “Obviously the man was not aware of the approaching train even as it blasted its horn, perhaps because of the earphone. “Before he knew it, he was already hit by the train and was not given any chance to escape. “Immediately he was hit, the body was mangled as the train dragged it underneath,’’ the eyewitness said. Nigeria’s first female chartered accountant and former Minister of Commerce and Tourism, Bola Kuforiji-Olubi, is currently in a United Kingdom prison where she is serving out a one-month jail term for contempt. According to findings by SHIPS & PORTS DAILY, Kuforiji-Olubi was convicted on February 18 by Justice Michael Burton of the Commercial Division of the High Court of Justice Queens Branch Division for disobeying the orders of the court. The former minister, who was ordered to be remanded at Her Majesty Prison Holloway, got herself into jail when she attempted to repeat the levity with which high profile individuals usually treat court orders in Nigeria in London. Her son, Olutokunbo Afolabi Kuforiji, who is said to be allegedly on the run, was equally sentenced to four months imprisonment, and ordered to be remanded at the Her Majesty Prison Pentonbiville from the day of apprehension. Mr Ifeanyi Uba, the Managing Director of Capital Oil & Gas Industries Ltd has been arrested by the Police Special Fraud Unit over the involvement of his firm in a N22.4 Billion subsidy fraud.
