 According to the UK  Daily Mail , a pregnant mother who thought she was expecting a small seven pound baby ended up giving birth to a daughter who tipped the scales at huge 14 pounds. Alisha Hernandez of Alamosa in southern Colarado went into labor on Monday and gave birth to Mia Yasmin Garcia by caesarean section at the San Luis Valley Hospital. But Miss Hernandez and midwives who helped deliver the baby were shocked when baby Mia arrived looking a lot larger than they first thought she would be. And after being weighed it was revealed that the newborn tipped the scales at 13 pounds, 13 ounces and measuring 22 inches long. A Russian airplane intercepted by Nigerian authorities Saturday on its way to neighbouring Chad, was transporting a large cache of AK47s and bullet proof vests, and other items, the News Agency of Nigeria has reported. Security operatives at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, on Saturday seized the plane which landed at the airport at about 2a.m. as a result of technical problems. Crew members of the airplane have been detained while investigations are ongoing, NAN quoted a source as saying. “Security has since been beefed up at the airport in order to ensure proper investigation,” the source said. The general manager of communication, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Yakubu Datti, confirmed the seizure of the plane. He said the pilot sought permission to land at the airport after the plane developed problems. “The plane had a technical problem and the pilot sought (for) permission to land at the airport’’, he said. Unknown gunmen stormed the Minna Medium Prison yard in Niger state around 4:30 this evening. They broke into the prison cells and set free about 270 inmates. According to reports, the gunmen over powered the Prison officials and then broke into the prison's armory where they stole some weapons and bullet proof vests. This will be the second jail break in Nigeria in the last one week. One happened in Ekiti state on Monday December 1st.

According to Premium Times , Bayoor Ewuoso’s experience aboard Arik Air flight W3 103 Y Lagos to Johannesburg on October 31, 2014, exposes the reality and danger of flying with airlines which compromise on basic safety requirements. About an hour before arriving Johannesburg, Mr. Ewuoso said he requested a cup of coffee, which an Arik flight attendant mistakenly spilled on his thighs. His pains turned to disbelief and shock when the attendant told him there was no first aid kit on board the plane and that he should go to the toilet and pour cold water on the spot. “I was shocked, I felt very bad when he told me there was no first aid kit on board. I just thought to myself, if this was something else, probably, I would even die under Arik’s watch,” Mr. Ewuoso said. In the toilet, Mr. Ewuoso noticed he had serious burns on both thighs.
