Breaking: Court issues arrest warrant for Innoson Chairman, Innocent Chukwuma

A Lagos High Court sitting in the Ikeja area of the state has issued a warrant for the arrest of the Chairman of Innoson Motors Limited, Innocent Chukwuma for failing to appear before the court to face his trial.  Justice Mojisola Dada this morning ordered that Mr Chukwuma should be arrested and brought to court on the next adjourned date of March 14. Chukwuma was arrested in December last year following his refusal to honour an invitation by the Commission having earlier jumped an administrative bail granted him in a case being investigated by the Capital Market and Insurance Fraud Unit of the Commission’s Lagos office. He is said to be having a running battle with GTB Bank over some unpaid money and bank charges.

FG to return excise duty on recharge cards, fruit juice

T he federal government will re-introduce excise duty on some goods manufactured in the country and excisable imported goods in line with the directive of ECOWAS council of ministers. In a letter addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari and seen by TheCable, Kemi Adeosun, minister of finance, said spaghetti and noodles would be exempted from the changes. Adeosun said noodles and spaghetti were exempted on the fact that “they currently constitute significant staple and accessible foods, which are easily affordable by all economic class of the Nigerian society”. The minister had suggested that all excisable products removed from the excise list in 2009 be returned. The excise duty is five percent. Excise duty is a type of tax paid on goods manufactured in a country. It differs from custom duties, which is paid on imported goods.
