The Federal Government has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to stop engaging in finger-pointing over the issue of the Chibok girls who were abducted under his watch, calling such action an unnecessary distraction from ongoing efforts to secure the release of the girls who remain in captivity, long after they were abducted. The advice was contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, following the former President's reaction to the report by a British newspaper that the British armed forces' offer to attempt to rescue the girls were rebuffed by then President Jonathan. ''While former President Jonathan reserves the right to defend his Administration, he should not engage in finger-pointing by saying, in a statement, that 'some people who have obviously been playing politics with the issue of the Chibok girls will stop at nothing to further their interest','

Last night, NTA mistakenly pronounced former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon rtd, dead when it scrolled a message on its station announcing that the former leader had passed on at 79 years old. It was later discovered that it was General Gowon's sister, Martha Kande Audu who is the 1st northern female voice on Radio/TV Kaduna that died yesterday at the age of 79.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday ordered banks to process foreign exchange demand for Personal Travel Allowance (PTA) and Business Travel Allowance (BTA) in all their branches within 24 hours. The CBN gave this order in a circular to all banks signed by the Director, Financial Markets Developments, Mr. Alvan Ikoku. Foreign exchange (forex) speculators have lost over N100 million in the last three days after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) injected fresh dollars into the interbank market. Many of them panicked as news about the CBN’s intervention hit the market. This was in continuation of its strategy to strengthen the value of the naira. According a source in the apex the bank, there is a planned release of an additional $350million bringing the total to $570 million in this week alone to further crash the value of the dollar.
