People Lost Their Lives As Stampede Mars Immigration Recruitment in Rivers

NIS Exam - A stampede marred the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment in Rivers. Some 25, 000 applicants were scheduled to participate in the NIS job recruitment interview holding at the 16, 000 capacity Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt. It was learnt that several NIS job applicants were seriously wounded, while some lost their certificates in the melee. The Public Relations Officer of NIS in Rivers, Mr Abang Bisong, who confirmed the incident in Port Harcourt on Saturday, said the stampede was caused when about 20, 000 candidates forced their way into the stadium. "During the stampede, some candidates fell and were trampled upon by others, while some became unconscious due to the incident. The victims have been taken to the Military Hospital for rehabilitation and treatment. At the moment, we have not received any information on their present condition," Bisong said.

Terrible: Woman And Her 3 Children Die After Meal Of ‘Amala’ In Ondo

A family in Ondo has been thrown into grief after it lost four of its members to food poisoning due to a meal of yam flour, popularly known as 'amala'. The meal was said to have been prepared by the wife and mother, identified as Mrs. Folorunso, after she bought the flour at the Isua Market. A member of the family, one Adesina Ayodeji, is said to have stated yesterday that shortly after partaking of the meal, all nine members who ate it fell unconscious and had to be hospitalized. The four family members lost their lives while being shuttled around hospitals and the remaining were said to have received a diagnosis from the Federal Medical Centre in Owo stating that the poison in the amala had damaged their kidneys and intestines. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Wole Ogodo, has said that he is aware of the incident but hasn't been officially briefed. Chris Brown Jailed After Being Thrown Out Of Rehab

According to a TMZ report, Chris Brown was arrested in Malibu yesterday after getting kicked out of rehab for violating rules... From TMZ, Chris Brown is in jail right now, because he violated a judge's order by getting booted from the rehab facility where he's been living for nearly 4 months ... TMZ has learned.   The judge in the Rihanna beating case ordered Chris to live in the Malibu rehab facility for 90 days to get anger management therapy, and he completed the stint earlier this month.  But ... at the last court hearing, the judge modified things and ordered Chris to stay in the facility while the Washington D.C. assault case ran its course.The deal was this ... if Chris left rehab, he would go directly to jail.Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... ‘UN Won’t Sanction Nigeria Over Anti-Gay Law’

The United Nations will not take any action against Nigeria as a result of the law banning same-sex relationship and marriage in the country, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Navi Pillay, said on Friday. Pillay spoke at a news conference in Abuja shortly before the end of her visit to the country. In the course of her visit, she held discussions with several stakeholders in the human rights and justice sector, including the ministers of foreign affairs and justice, the National Security Adviser, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, officials of the National Human Rights Commission and members of the National Assembly committees on human rights.

350 Killed In Fresh Boko Haram, Army War In Maiduguri

At least 350 people were killed Friday, as the upsurge in violence in the North East caused by the renewed engagement between  Boko Haram insurgents and the Special Forces, this time in Maimalari district of Maiduguri, the Borno capital, reached the 7-day mark. The insurgents had attacked the 21 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army early Friday morning, just three days after suffering what many consider a huge loss when Special Forces attacked one of their biggest bases near Lake Chad. According to the Punch: The dead included insurgents who attacked the military formation and their members who were held at the biggest detention facility on the premises of the headquarters of the Brigade.
