Read the article by former CBN governor, Charles Soludo, that's got everyone talking

Image
Former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Charles Soludo, wrote a very long article yesterday titled 'Buhari vs Jonathan, Beyond the elections', where he x-rayed the chances of the two men winning next month's general elections and the challenges that lie ahead. In the very incisive piece, Soludo berated the present administration of having poor economic plan which he graded "F". He says President Jonathan's economic team is too weak due to its composition of "self-interested and self-conflicted group of traders and businessmen".  He said "President Jonathan if you are not re-elected, there is little to remember about your regime after the next few years".  On Buhari, he said the former military leader and his team must realize that they do not yet have a coherent, credible agenda that is consistent with the fundamentals of the economy currently. The APC manifesto contains some good principles and wish-lists, b

Graphic pics: Woman brutally beats househelp in Ibadan

Image
Someone sent me a link to this story and I just had to post it. It's a story from  Talkloaded.net . The woman pictured left is being accused of brutally assaulting her 12 year old housemaid. (pictured right). They said the incident happened yesterday Jan. 25th at Eleyele police barrack in Ibadan. The woman allegedly beat the girl so much, she knocked off her tooth and nearly blinded her. She then poured hot water on the girl. Her cries attracted neighbours who saved her from the attack. The woman then allegedly told neighbours she beat the girl because she didn't clean the house. The girl has been taken to a hospital and the woman detained. I'm going to follow up on this story. This woman deserves to see inside a prison wall.

Woman turns 40, had no man...and decided to marry herself. See her wedding pics

Image
Yasmin Eleby from Houston, Texas promised herself when she was much younger that if she hit 40 and wasn't married, she would marry herself. And so when she hit 40 recently and wasn't married and didn't even have a man, she kept that promise to herself. Yasmin threw herself a full wedding, complete with a candlelit ceremony. She had her mum walk her down the aisle, and had her sister who is a minster, help her say vows, in a spiritual ceremony - because you can't legally marry yourself in America. Her other three sisters were her bridesmaid and her friends attended. The wedding took place at Huston Museum of African American Culture (HMAAC), on Saturday, January 3, 2015.  .   k

Boko Haram: Military got intelligence report before Monguno attack, yet taken by surprise

Image
The Nigerian military received reliable intelligence report indicating that the Boko Haram sect would launch a massive attack on Monguno, yet troops were taken by surprise when the insurgents struck early Sunday, suggesting the 5 Brigade stationed in the area failed to prepare adequately for the group’s onslaught. Reliable military sources told PREMIUM TIMES that the Brigade received report indicating the insurgents would attack between January 22 and 25. The report, our sources said, was read to officers and men of the Brigade on the night of January 22, with a stern warning that everyone should remain on high alert. Despite warning troops to remain on alert, the leadership of the formation failed to take the necessary steps and make the right deployment of men and equipment to check the imminent attack, PREMIUM TIMES was told. When the terrorists arrived on Sunday, the troops were therefore taken by surprise. Military insiders said the insurgents arrived at ab

"We (the govt) don't have the media behind us - Doyin Okupe

Image
While speaking as a guest on a current affairs programme on STV this afternoon, Presidential spokesman, Doyin Okupe said the present government doesn't not have the backing of the media. Okupe stated this while responding to a question on why the president's media team focus more on talking about the opposition than the achievements of the government such as the 50% reduction in maternal mortality rate in Nigeria now. I watch the programme myself and below is what he said; "That is not correct. This government has built 38 dams. I did a programme called four impactful years. They were shown on television. We are not deceiving people. If I tell you we have 24 airport in Nigeria, are they not verifiable? I can tell you all the airports have been remodeled. Fact. Go to anywhere. Wherever you want to go. They have been remodeled. If I tell you that the Benin-ore road used to be a death trap. People used to spend 24 hours on the road, today day spend three hours. I
