How Saraki, Tinubu, Odili, Others Rob Their States Blind Through Obnoxious Pension Laws - PREMIUM TIMES

Image
A massive public outcry forced Akwa Ibom Governor, Godswill Akpabio, to backtrack on a scandalous multi billion pension plan for himself and other former governors of the state this week. But a review of similar pension laws in at least half a dozen states shows how Nigerians have spent a fortune maintaining their profligate former governors, and ex-deputies, with pensions for life, free health care, security, transportation, cars, accommodation and jobs- the same needs other citizens are deprived of daily. The worst cases yet examined by PREMIUM TIMES are in Kwara, Lagos, Gombe, Zamfara, Akwa Ibom and Rivers States. Kwara The Kwara pension law was first passed in 2003 and approved by former governor, Mohammed Lawal. The Lawal law merely stipulated that qualified former governors and their deputies be paid pension for life, without other perks  like accommodation, cars and other perks. The law was reviewed in 2010 by Bukola Saraki, a former governor of the state and a ser

ATTENTION!: Rihanna Perfume Ad Banned! In UK

Image
While the gist over Rihanna’s “ Naked Dress ” from Monday night’s CFDA Awards is being talked about heavily through the media, there’s already a new RiRi-dressed-inappropriately scandal on the horizon. In London, Rihanna’s Rogue perfume posters are now being removed from areas where children would likely see them, since the British Advertising Standards Authority has deemed the image “sexually suggestive.” The likelihood that children see images far more explicit than this on TV and the Internet on a daily basis is a whole lot greater. They also take Rihanna’s facial expression into account, not just her naked body, and to them, Rihanna’s glance is one “of defiance rather than vulnerability.” How ironic for this decision to be made after her heart stopping red carpet appearence. Do you think its being taken a little too seriously given Rihanna’s reputation of being a “Bad Gal” anyways?

Obama Admitted He Broke The Law and Apologise to Lawmakers

Image
The White House issued an apology to key lawmakers for not speaking to Congress, as required by law, that the administration was planning to trade an alleged deserter for five top Taliban terrorist commanders. “He apologized for it and said it was an oversight,” Feinstein stated was her impression of the call she received from Deputy National Security Adviser Tony Blinken. Obama has certainly had a lot of breaking-the-law ‘oversights’ hasn’t he? Doesn’t seem to realize he’s broken the law until he “learns about it on TV”. A TOP AIDE TO PRESIDENT OBAMA IS NOW APOLOGIZING TO CONGRESS FOR NOT INFORMING LAWMAKERS, AS REQUIRED BY LAW, THAT THE WHITE HOUSE WAS PLANNING TO TRADE AN ALLEGED DESERTER FOR FIVE TOP TALIBAN COMMANDERS. The apology comes after Obama himself defended his actions this morning, insisting his administration had discussed the release with Congress “for some time.” Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) told reporters that she received a call from Deputy National Secur

North’s Position On Igbo Is Insulting — Ezike, Executive Director, CLO

Image
IBuchukwu Ezike , Executive Director of the Civil Liberties Organisation, CLO, is one of the delegates at the on-going National Conference representing South-East civil society groups. He spoke to Vanguard recently on a wide-range of issues that have generated heated debates at the confab. Excerpts: BY OKEY NDIRIBE What is your view on the current controversy over the Land Use Act at the National Conference? My view is very clear and has the support of majority of delegates at the National Conference. I believe that majority of Nigerians who have been affected by the Land Use Act also support our position on what is happening in Nigeria today. The truth of the matter is that a few people have for a long time cornered the land property and resources of the people for their own selfish interest but they have always claimed to have done so in the interest of the people.   In the first place, I want to emphasize my earlier position that the nation should return to the 1963 Con

Gwoza Under Siege: Boko Haram Kills 300, Wipes Out 3 Villages

Image
No fewer than 300 villagers were reportedly killed in three communities around Gwoza local government area of Borno State on Monday as gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram but fully kitted in military fatigue uniform attacked them, eyewitnesses and security operatives said. A few villagers in Danjara, Agapalwa and Antagara who managed to escape the attack are currently taking refuge in the rocky Gwoza hills, while others mostly women and children who were spared by the attackers have found their way into Cameroonian territory. A state lawmaker representing the region, Peter Biye, told the Hausa Service of the  British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)  that “they (Boko Haram) opened fire on villagers and burned houses and churches to the ground”. Dozens of people were killed in each attack, he said, but he could not give precise figures. Andrew Tada, an indigene of Attagara who lives in Maiduguri, the state capital, told the  BBC  that he lost two cousins in the attack, noting that

Cameroonian Army Kills 60 Boko Haram Members, 100 Killed In Borno Communal Clash

Image
MAIDUGURI— MORE than 100 persons were killed, yesterday, in a communal clash involving three border communities in Gwoza Local Government Council of Borno State. Members of Attagara, Aghapalwa and Gwoshe border communities were said to have taken up arms against one another. It, however, turned out to be a religious war between Christians and Muslims. It will be recalled that no fewer than nine Christian worshippers were said to have been killed last Sunday, by Islamic militants during a Sunday service in Attagara village, leaving many others critically injured. According to reports, the youths in a spontaneous reprisal attack mobilized themselves and killed 37 of them. However, following the reprisal attacks, sources said, some Muslim youths believed that the Christian youths killed other Muslims rather than Boko Haram members, who were responsible for the death of the nine Christian worshippers as well as the burning of churches in Attagara Village. The Muslim youths were said

Wendy Williams blasts Rihanna's racy CFMA outfit, says she's not a fashion icon

Image
Y'all know Wendy Williams tells it as it is and speaks her mind regardless of whose ox is gored. On her show yesterday, the talk show host went in on Rihanna, saying the sheer dress Rihanna wore to  Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards  was inappropriate and RiRi is not a fashion icon. "She’s got a really terrific body and she’s a really beautiful girl, but as far as I’m concerned, she’s totally inappropriate for walking out the house with this outfit on. “This is the kind of outfit…that when you invite all of your friends over and you’re hosting your down low sex party…then you wear this outfit. And you smoke your blunts out of a cigarette holder and you walk around like you own the joint. But you don’t walk out of the house like this. Since when is public nudity ok?” Rihanna is a risk taker. I don’t really consider her a fashion icon. I consider her a risk taker and it’s nothing wrong with that. I think that Jennifer Lopez is a fashion icon. Jennifer
