JAMB fixes cut off marks for universities, polytechnics, colleges of education

T he Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has fixed minimum cut off marks for Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. The minimum cut off marks for admissions into universities in Nigeria was set for 120, polytechnics and colleges of education pegged at 100. Innovative enterprising institutes was pegged at 110. However, institutions can raise their cut off marks for admission above the minimum set by JAMB. Also, admissions into public degree awarding institutions for the 2017 UTME examination will end on January 15, 2018 while for private institutions, it ends on January 31, 2018. Meanwhile, decisions on first choice candidates by universities will end on October 15, and second choice candidates will end on December 15; after which the remaining students will be available in the market place for other institutions till the January closing dates. P resident Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday assured people of the South East that his administration will ensure they “get their dues” just like other zones in the country. Buhari gave the assurance while receiving a coalition of South East youths group who stormed the Aso Rock Villa gate to declare support for him. His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina made the remark when he received the group. According to Adesina, “I want to promise on his behalf that the South East will get its due during the time of President Muhammadu Okechukwu Buhari. “The roads in the region will be fixed and the second Niger Bridge will be done. P resident Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday ordered Nigeria’s Service Chiefs to ensure that Nigeria remains one in accordance with his position as stated in his speech on Monday. The directive was disclosed to State House Correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonishakin, after Service Chiefs met with Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. According to Olonishakin, Buhari said they should ensure that his directive was carried out to the latter. F ormer Nigerian oil minister, Diezani Alison Madueke has lost more properties located in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja, valued at about N2.7 billion to the Nigerian government. Justice Abdulaziz Anka of the Federal High Court in Lagos gave the forfeiture order on Tuesday. The houses seized included 21 mixed housing units of eight four bedroom penthouse apartment; six buildings of three bedroom apartments; two buildings of three bedrooms apartment and one building of four bedrooms apartment, located at 7 Thurnburn Street and 5 Raymond Street, Yaba. They were all valued at N937 million. There were also 16-four bedrooms terrace buildings, located at Heritage Court Estate, Omerelu Street, Diobu GRA, Port-Harcourt, River State, valued at N928 million. P resident Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday presided over a crucial meeting of the National Security Council. The meeting was attended by Nigeria’s military chiefs as well as the Inspector General of Police, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. P resident Muhammadu Buhari has posted a short clip of him meeting with Chief Emeka Ojukwu. The video has been uploaded via Buhari’s official Twitter page, as arguments started all over social media, after he mentioned that he met Ojukwu in 2003. In the clip, the two men are seen shaking hands, during the meeting that took place in the President’s hometown of Daura. “In 2003 after I joined partisan politics, the late Chief Emeka Ojukwu came and stayed as my guest in my hometown Daura.
