The Police Service Commission has announced the promotion of two hundred and thirty three (233) senior Police Officers. The promotion was said to be one of the decisions of the 9th plenary Meeting of the Commission held in Abuja on Thursday. Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations of the commission, announced this in a statement in Abuja on Friday, saying that 55 of the officers were promoted from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to the next rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police, (DCP), 177 promoted from the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) to that of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and one Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) promoted to a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). He said the Commission took cognizance of merit, availability of vacancy and satisfactory appraisal of performance (APER) grading in considering and approving the promotion of the officers.

Not fewer than 43 villagers were killed on Wednesday after suspected Boko Haram militants attacked the Azaya Kura village of Mafa Local Government Area, Borno State. Militants, who rode in many vehicles stormed the village at about 12:30 p.m. and started attacking the residents, burning down many houses as they carted away foodstuff, wares, and livestock. According to local vigilante  Basiru Babagana, who escaped from the hands of the militants, "B oko Haram is hunting for men. They are not after women. "Our village has been burnt down many people in our place killed." Usman Yusuf, a local transporter, said "We were under attack on Wednesday. Nobody helped our people. 40 people mining without licenses in the Ghanaian town of Tiagbani are reported to have been trapped in the pit they were mining in. According to a local Ghanaian radio station seven [7] of the unlicensed local miners were pulled out of the pit but died shortly afterwards. Another 33 are believed to be still trapped underground. The bodies of the those pulled out of the pit have been deposited at the district hospital for autopsy. “They went to operate at their site but unfortunately the pit caved in on them. Rescuers are doing their best to dig out the dead bodies but at the moment the whole township is mourning,” the reporter for the radio station said. A young man who has been parading himself as an army officerand defrauding some unsuspecting people of their hard earned money, Samuel Ita Ekeng, has had his cup full and is now cooling his heels in police detention at the Rivers State Police Command. The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ahmad Mohammad, said Ekeng was apprehended while dressed in military uniform. He further accused the  fake  military personnel of intimidating and extorting money from the unsuspecting public, stressing that he would be charged for impersonation. A statement the command released reads: The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public about the arrest of a fake soldier, Samuel Ita Ekeng. A student of Computer Science Department of University of Calabar name withheld almost lost his sight after a lecturer known as Chris Otu in the Department of Economics, University of Calabar stabbed him with his-car key during lecture hour. According to an eye-withness Mr Otu was supposed to have a class with year 3 students of Computer Science Department by 10.am, today 21 Nov. but he failed to appear after keeping the students waiting for two hours, he later appeared by  12-noon . After the lecturer's arrival, the waiting students assembled themselves at the lecture venue New CES building room 7 behind Unical Library. According to Sahara Reporters, another military helicopter belonging to the Nigerian Airforce crashed in Damare, near the Federal University of Technology in Yola, Adamawa State, around the same spot where the last helicopter crashed on November 14th.  The military is yet to say anything about the crash and no word yet if there are casualties. The very disturbing 35 second video showing the man beating a screaming woman repeatedly with a huge chunk of wood was posted to Youtube a few days ago. The poster said it happened in Brazil but didn't say who the victim and attacker were. Though some comments suggested that she's his partner. A team of medical personnel are battling to save the life of Mrs. Mary-Ann Oguezuonu, a female teacher at Obosima Secondary Technical School, Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, who was brutalized by irate male students of the college. Reports emanating from Obosima revealed that the students attacked the nursing mother with machetes.
