30 Adolescents, aged as young as 11 abducted in northeast Nigeria - local chief

(AFP) - Around 30 adolescents -- some of them girls aged as young as 11 -- have been abducted in northeast Nigeria over the weekend by suspected Boko Haram rebels, a local village chief told reporters on Sunday. "The insurgents... grabbed young people, boys and girls, from our region," said Alhaji Shettima Maina, who is in charge of the Mafa village around 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state. "They took all boys aged 13 and over... and all girls aged 11 and more. According to our information, 30 young people were abducted in the last two days." Another village elder, Mallam Ashiekh Mustapha, confirmed the account. Both men said 17 people were also killed in recent days in a Boko Haram attack on the nearby village of Ndongo. Boko Haram kills four Nigerian refugees in Cameroon

Four Nigerians taking refuge in a village in the far north of Cameroon have been killed by members of Boko Haram in an attack that took place on Friday October 24th. According to a statement made available today to AFP, the Cameroonian Ministry of Defence said the sect members attacked " the village of Glawi,  killing four Nigerian refugees and wounding one Camerounian, before being pushed back by defence forces which pursued them”. The ministry also said  two groups of Boko Haram members had also tried to enter another border village with Nigeria but they were “immediately intercepted and neutralised by our defence forces who destroyed three 4×4 vehicles equipped with machine guns, killing 27 assailants,”. 39 members of the sect were confirmed dead after the various attacks

25 year old Blessing Onyibe Nwogbagami, (pictured above) has been arrested by men of the Ebonyi state Police command for killing her husband, Mr Onwe Nwogbagami, near their home at Ojegbe Amike Ugbodo, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. The mother of one attacked her husband with a cutlass while he was sleeping at an uncompleted building on October 13th. Explaining why she killed her husband, Blessing told  Sunday Sun "My hus­band was fond of chasing me with cutlass whenever we have misunderstanding. A homophobic passenger at a Texas airport had to be subdued by a group of spectators on Thursday after he began bullying and assaulting a man waiting to board his flight. Footage on YouTube of the brawl at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport shows a man teasing another passenger for wearing a pink shirt at Gate 30 in Terminal C. The unprovoked ringleader of the fight can be seen removing his jacket as he continues to shout at the man in the pink shirt. A concerned onlooker in a black cowboy hat then asks what the screaming man what he is so upset about. 'Queers is what I am upset about! FG to ban commercial motorcycles nationwide

The use of motorcycles as commercial means of transport in Nigeria, popularly known as ‘Okada’ or ‘Achaba’ may soon be banned throughout the country. The proposal for the ban was made by the National Council on Transport after its annual conference in Enugu State and endorsed by the Minister of Transport, Sen. Idris Umar. A statement from the Federal Ministry of Transport on Saturday evening stated that the ban of commercial motorcycle was one of the measures proposed towards adequate provision of safety and secure transportation in Nigeria. It said the recommendation was contained in a statement of the week long meeting which had in attendance all the state commissioners of transport, permanent secretaries, directors and officials in the federal and state ministries of transport across the country. The council advised all states in the federation to henceforth discourage the use of commercial motorcycles as a means of public transportation. “All states an

The Chris Giwa-led faction of the Nigeria Football Federation has overturned the decision of the body earlier taken by the opposing faction of Amaju Pinnick to reinstate Stephen Keshi as the Super Eagles coach. The Amaju-led faction replaced Keshi with Amodu Shaibu a fortnight ago after leading the Super Eagles to a 3-1 victory over Sudan in Abuja. The win was the team’s first in four matches in the qualifying series for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. The Giwa faction took over the NFF following Thursday’s ruling by a Jos Federal High Court, which ordered the return of the status quo in the NFF before the September 30 election that brought in the Amaju-led board in Warri.
