Three female police officers who went to make an arrest at Oregbeni quarters in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo State were on Wednesday beaten and stripped naked. The police officers are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital. They were invited by a landlady in the area to arrest one of her tenants when a fracas ensued. The Nation gathered that trouble started when the tenant insisted on taking her bath before going to the police station but the police officers said she should follow them. A fracas ensued and other residents in the area joined the tenant to beat and stripped the police officers. The landlady who gave her name as Mrs. Okebuse said she invited the police because she had given the tenants quit notice. She said, “When the police came to make arrest, they started fighting the police. My good friend is in the hospital in Abuja now for four days with second degree burns. While he was sleeping his wife poured hot water on him (face legs, thighs, hips). She then locked him inside while he was screaming “fire, fire”, then she took off. She is 5months pregnant they have a 16month old. Been married for a year and a half. Early in the year, she slapped him which lead to him beating her. They reconciled. He also complains that they switch house-help every month because she beats the househelp where there is blood on the wall. Should he stay or get the f out!!…- pissed off friend”

Boko Haram militants have shot and injured the acting Brigade commander of 23rd Brigade in Yola. Colonel Popoola was shot in the shoulder three days ago in the thick of a battle to regain control of Hong and Gombi in Adamawa state from the Islamist militant sect. An army source in Abuja told SaharaReporters that the senior army officer has been evacuated to UCH Ibadan where he is expected to receive better and further treatment in the coming days. Several soldiers were reported to have died in the battle. The military source also told SaharaReporters that at least 300 Boko Haram militants have died in the battle. Colonel Popoola reportedly led a new crop of soldiers drafted from Jos into battle against the insurgents in a renewed battle to retake several towns from Boko Haram. The troop was able to recover two armored tanks from the militants after the battle was over. The military claimed to have regained control of towns today in a short tweet.  SaharaReporters co

A baby boy born with four arms and four legs is causing panic in the streets of Baruipur, east India, as locals believe he is the reincarnation of a god. The child has been named God Boy, as multiple limbs are common among Hindu deities, and people are travelling from across the region to the city in West Bengal State to get a glimpse of the child. Local police complain they are struggling to control the crowds, as hundreds clamour to get access to the hospital. The family are overjoyed at their new addition and see him as the son Hindu God Brahma, who is depicted with eight limbs. ‘When he first came out we couldn’t believe it, the nurses said he was badly deformed but I could see that this was a sign from God. In fact, this is a miracle, its God’s baby. Indian God’s have extra limbs just like this,’ a relative said.

According to Human Rights Watch, the organization fighting to get the practice abolished - female police recruits who make only 3% of the country's police force, are being forced to take 'virginity test' before they begin training. The Indonesia police recruitment website says, ‘All women who want to become policewomen should keep their virginity." The female police officers who have undergone this test, which examines them to make sure their hymens are still intact, say its ‘painful, traumatic and really upsetting’ and are asking that it be stopped. "I feared that after they performed the test I would not be a virgin any more. It really hurt. My friend even fainted because … it really hurt, really hurt.’ a recruit told HRW Human Rights Watch say they are working with the government to get rid of the practice as its ‘discriminatory and a form of gender-based violence’.

A woman in New York City who was being monitored for possible exposure to Ebola has died and her cause of death is being investigated by the city’s Health Department. The woman had recently arrived from Guinea, one of three countries that have been designated for special attention to travelers because of outbreaks of the lethal virus. Liberia and Sierra Leone are the other two countries. The New York City Health Department said that the last time the woman was checked, she did not have symptoms of Ebola. People who are being monitored are checked daily. There are about 350 people on the city’s list of people being monitored for Ebola.
