Nollywood Actor, Kenneth Okonkwo and Ex-commissioner Fight Over Enugu Reps Ticket

Nollywood star, Kenneth Okonkwo and the immediate-past Commissioner for Enugu Capital Development Authority, Ikechukwu Ugwuegede, are gearing for a showdown over who gets the PDP House of Representatives ticket for Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Okonkwo, who became a household name after his role in the award-winning ‘Living in Bondage’, is one of the many Nollywood stars that have dumped acting for politics ahead the 2015 general elections.
He is however, facing stiff opposition from Ugwuegede, who appears to be more familiar with the political terrain having resigned as commissioner just few weeks ago to run for the same position.
Ugwuegede, who exuded so much confidence while speaking to journalists after submitting his nomination

form, said he remained the aspirant to beat among all the contenders for his party’s ticket, including the immediate past chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Tony Ugwu.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the way Nsukka/Igboeze South federal constituency was represented in the House of Representatives and promised, “to render effective representation” to the people if elected.
He said there was need for leaders who have the interest of the people at heart, to make themselves available for selfless services to their constituency for effective representation.
The former commissioner said If elected he will attract as much Federal projects that are community friendly to his constituency. “I believe there is so much we can get from the National Assembly which we have not gotten”, he said.
He affirmed Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State as the party leader even as he said that contrary to the widely speculated crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, the party structure was in the firm grip of the Asogwa-led State Executive Council, SEC.
