An email from a  reader The Nigeria High Commission in London needs an urgent overhaul. This afternoon we Nigerians were treated like animals in Fleet street London all because we want to do BVN for those of us that have accounts in Nigeria. Things soon became chaotic and someone called police on us. They allowed us converge on the street and then locked us out. We are also being forced to pay £30.00 each but none of the officials or the website can explain what the money is for. Is it not free in Nigeria?

Radio Biafra lying against me — Buhari

Image
President Muhammadu Buhari has denied expressing anti-Igbo sentiments as alleged by the propaganda channel, Radio Biafra. The claim by the radio that the president disparaged the Igbo ethnic group in a BBC Hausa interview, is completely false, malicious and slanderous, presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said Wednesday. Mr. Shehu said the voice being ascribed to President Buhari in the recording, repeatedly played back by the pirate station, is definitely not the president’s. “No one should be deceived by the pirate radio station’s hate propaganda against the president,” Mr. Shehu said in a statement on Wednesday. The comments were the Nigerian presidency’s first official response to the controversy generated by the underground channel’s broadcast. The government said on Tuesday the station had been taken off the airwaves, a claim that turned out false. Mr. Buhari said he has not granted an interview to the BBC since March 31 when he was declared w...

Image
At least N11.55 trillion or  $84.52 billion  expected revenue into the coffers of the nation’s Excess Crude Account for the eight-year period from 2007 to 2014 are unaccounted for, according to findings by  PREMIUM TIMES  based on now available data from multiple government agencies not made public until now. The ECA accounting has remained perhaps one of the most opaque public fund mechanisms in the country, puzzling even state governors who repeatedly challenged former Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for lack of transparency and accountability regarding the organization of the fund. After a recent National Economic Council meeting in Abuja, a committee of state governors angrily lashed at Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala, accusing her office, as supervisors of the fund, of arbitrariness and probably illegality in the management of a fund meant for the three tiers of government but which the ministry of finance apparently ran as a sole federal government fund. ...
