16 persons were killed and many others injured after a suicide bomber blew himself up at the Alhaji Haruna Dan Tilyan Mosque located at Layin Sama Ali Kotoko Street near the Maiduguri Monday Market today May 30th. According to reports, the suicide bomber disguised as one of the traders and blew himself up as the traders gathered for their afternoon prayers. The dead have been evacuated to the morgue while those who suffered injuries are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals.

President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned Friday’s terrorist attack on Maiduguri, warning that his new administration won’t tolerate wanton and willful destruction of life by criminal elements that are bent on anarchy. Buhari yesterday Friday May 29th left some African leaders and other guests who had moved with him from the Eagles Square to the new Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa to celebrate his inauguration, midway into the programme to attend Jumat service. When he didn't return after many hours, organizers of the event had to invite VP Osinbajo to make remarks on behalf of Buhari. Osinbajo, in his remarks, apologised to the guests for the President’s absence. He explained that he left in order to take part in Jumat prayers. The President did not return to the venue before the programme ended. Officials of past administrations, including ministers have not been banned from traveling out of the country by the new government. In a statement issued on Saturday by Garba Shehu, Head, President Muhammadu Buhari Media Team from Aso Villa, the President said all officials are entitled to their full rights and privileges under the constitution and must not be subjected to any undue harassment and intimidation at the airports or at other points of entry and exit. “We have not banned anyone from travelling,” said the President. Responding to some cases of “V.I.P stoppages” at the airports as reported to him on Saturday, President Buhari directed all agencies under the government to run their affairs in full compliance with extant rules, regulations and the constitution of the country. “Unless otherwise directed by the courts, no law-abiding citizens should be barred from travelling abroad. We must treat fellow citizens with courtesy and respect.
