Dismissed Soldier Reveals Shocking Maltreatment In Nigerian Army – Read More

A Nigerian soldier has revealed the maltreatment he’s got after being sacked by the Nigerian army.

Agunloye Sunday said the accusations against him and 199 others were “untrue, false and malicious” and that the arms given for them were outdated.
He said: “The bombs given to us were made since 1964 they were expired, so we could not use them.”

“Each of us were given five bullets, not five rounds to fire, while in the forest, our biggest weapon was to cover just a distance on 400 meters, but our enemy had aircraft weapons that could cover a distance of more than 1000 meters with other dangerous weapons.

“We only retreated to our base, waiting for ammunition for three days in vain.”

Sunday clarified that the soldiers were earlier jailed for 28 days with hard labour by one Lt. Colonel Gambo, before a general court martial was set up by the Nigerian military to probe them.

He added that Gambo had also been ordered into the cell – an army cell- for giving soft sanctions against the troops.

The soldier also revealed that they are also being owed 10 months salaries and allowances by the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“We have been sleeping in the open at the barrack since we left the forest November 13th without food, but we have been ‘falling in’ for duties each day at the barracks,” he added.

It should be noted that the Nigerian military at the Rukuba Barracks in Jos, Plateau State, sacked about 200 soldiers from service for their failure to take the Sambisa forest – a notorious stronghold of Boko Haram insurgents in Borno state.

There were reports that 70 other soldiers have been sent to their various villages unceremoniously on the basis of desertification.

Many of them were considered to be connected to the fall of Mubi, the second largest town in Adamawa state.
