Abuja - The Department of State Services (DSS) says it is investigating the former Governor of Borno, Alhaji Modu Sheriff, over allegation that he is a sponsor of the Boko Haram. Ms Marilyn Ogar, the Deputy Director, Public Relations of the DSS, stated this on Friday at a news conference. Ogar also said that other allegations made by the Australian negotiator, Mr Stephen Davis, over sponsorship of the sect by some individuals were being investigated. “As for the former governor, he has been invited twice by this service and the service has also invited him again,’’ she said. The DSS spokeswoman, however, defended former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejerika, saying that it was uncharitable to accuse the ex-army chief of sponsoring the sect. The Somali prime minister said on Friday that Ahmed Godane, head of the Islamist militant group al Shabaab, was killed in a U.S. strike this week, although the group that is waging an insurgency against the government has yet to comment. U.S. officials had said on Wednesday that they were still checking to see whether Monday's U.S. missile strike on an al Shabaab encampment had killed Godane, who was appointed leader in 2008 after his predecessor was killed in a U.S. attack. "We tell the Somalis that Godane is dead," Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed said on his Facebook page, the first government confirmation of his death. (Reuters)

A Zimbabwean Reverend Menard Zvenyika has reportedly committed suicide after allegedly impregnating his married housemaid three times and fathering her baby. Zvenyika was due to appear before a disciplinary hearing of his church with a $10,000 fine slammed on him by a local court in Zimbabwe. Two women got physical at the Cathedral Church of All Saints, Makurdi Benue state after one accused the other of being a witch. During the church’s monthly Power Night program which held on Wednesday, September 3, a woman who was in deep reflection suddenly jumped up and attacked another woman named Christy. She told Christy that she got a revelation that she was a witch. She said: “Christy is the cause of many problems in people’s lives. 9 year old twin brothers Patrick and Thomas O'Driscoll were stabbed to death yesterday September 4th by their older half brother Jonathan, 20, who then killed himself about an hour later.
