Image
Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, on Friday took to the podium to explain to women in Akwa Ibom State the meaning of ‘corruption’. While addressing the crowd during the Peoples Democratic Party Women Presidential Rally in Uyo, Mrs. Jonathan said the promise by the All Progressives Congress to fight corruption were “all lies”. “Akwa Ibom people, judge o. Because we are not here for lies. We are not here for propaganda. Because their own number one campaign is corruption. As if them are not corrupt. They are not corrupt,” Mrs. Jonathan said. “What do you call corruption? He has a house. You, are you living outside? Are you living in the forest? It’s corruption. “In abroad, if a young boy works so hard and buy a copter, we praise the boy. But in Nigeria, if a young boy works so hard and buy a copter, we say he’s corrupt. Why? “Why can’t we encourage the young ones to grow? Why can’t we encourage them to do better? We, our mother born us and trai

Interim Government: We have proof against Jonathan – Fayemi

Image
President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP lied in their claim that no entreaty was made to woo All Progressives Congress, APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu into a proposed interim government, former Governor Kayode Fayemi said Sunday. Fayemi, presently the director of policy in the Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation who disclosed the existence of verifiable proof of the plot also reassured the president and his aides that a future APC national government would not witch-hunt them through a probe. Fayemi, who spoke in Ado Ekiti nevertheless cautioned the PDP led administration against allowing any harm to the person of Tinubu, warning that any such harm would mean crossing the red line as he said that Tinubu’s assertion of a threat to his life was true. Fayemi spoke at Aramoko Ekiti Sunday during the 40-day Fidau for the late Pa Jejelola Akingbolu and Mrs Raliat Akingbolu. Tinubu had last week alleged that the presi

Image
EKITI State governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, has said the alleged withdrawal of support of former Vice President Atiku Abuba-kar and leaders of thought in the North for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), was enough signal that the APC has lost the battle. Fayose declared that the new development has deflated the ego of the opposition party to the extent that it has tactically conceded defeat few days to the March 28 presidential election. In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, in Ado-Ekiti, Fayose added that the U-turn made by the northern leaders, which had realised that Buhari would be made to shortchange the North, had rattled the party. The governor noted that Atiku and his supporters were already retracing their steps back to the PDP and that the North had seen the deceit in APC South-west leaders in pushing forward Buhari, even against the man’s interest. Fayose also

Image
The March 28 presidential election has made some traditional rulers in the South-West geopolitical zone millions of naira richer, SUNDAY PUNCH has learnt. Findings show that this change of fortunes was brought about by President Goodluck Jonathan’s quest for the support of the traditional rulers and their subjects for his re-election bid. Jonathan, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, has virtually relocated to the South-West since the Independent National Electoral Commission postponed the general elections. The President has traversed the geopolitical zone, holding series of meetings with traditional rulers, groups and individuals. Analysts have said South-West voters might determine the outcome of the presidential election. As a result, the All Progressives Congress and the PDP are making strenuous efforts to win the votes of the region. For all of his self-proclaimed virtues, we now know Dbanj is incapable of making another hit song. It’s like losing your wife and realising all those years of “great sex” was untrue, because the minute she left and you hooked up with another woman, she tells you- without the advantage of love- that your skills are lame. Dbanj has struggled. Oh dear! Every song- and you can see that he lost sleep, sw
