'We Don't Need Foreign Assistance, Nigeria Can Solve Chibok Problem Alone' - Chimamanda Adichie

Image
While speaking at the 2014 Hay Festival for Literature and Arts in Wales recently, award-winning Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Adichie expressed her reservations on the foreign assistance Nigeria is receiving on the missing chibok school girls. Adichie said the foreign government should focus on solving their own problems and leave Nigeria to deal with theirs "Now we have American drones helping us in this forest and even the French have sent in people – shouldn’t they be fixing their own economy? We can solve our own damn problems. I’m sure that there are hunters in that area who know that forest very well. Why haven’t they been used? Why aren’t we depending on them? What we need is a better equipped military, a better trained military. We don’t need Americans to send people in" she said. Continue... JUST IN: Singer Chris Brown Released From Jail

Image
Singer Chris Brown was released early Monday from a Los Angeles County jail, authorities said. Los Angeles Sheriff's deputy Tony Moore told The Associated Press that Brown was released at 12:01 a.m. Monday, but he didn't have any more details. Brown had been in custody since mid-March, when he was arrested after being expelled from a court-ordered rehab sentence for violating its rules. And a judge last month ordered the R&B singer to remain in jail after he admitted he violated his probation by getting into an altercation outside a hotel in Washington, D.C., last year. In his May 9 decision, Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin sentenced the singer to serve an additional 131 days in jail, but he had been expected to get out much sooner. Brandlin had sentenced Brown to serve a year in county jail but gave him credit for nearly eight months. The credits include time that the singer has spent in rehab and jail, as well as credits for good behavior while behind

Image
LAGOS—President Goodluck Jonathan has reportedly seen a new video released by Boko Haram, where the abducted school girls of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, spoke about their ordeal in the hands of the insurgents for the first time and pleaded with him to secure their release. Vanguard report say that, the girls were reportedly ill and are in camps located in Chad, Niger and Cameroon, with one of them nursing a broken wrist. Details of The US Prisoner Swap Deal to Free Kidnapped Soldier

Image
If America can release five Afghanistan prisoners for "just" one American soldier, then I wonder why some of us are saying the Presidency should not swap our girls with Boko Haram members or their wives. This American soldier already signed to die by joining the military yet his country still negotiated for his release. How come Nigeria can't negotiate to free innocent girls who don't even know anything about this madness? According to reports, five Taliban leaders have arrived in Qatar after being freed from Guantanamo Bay by the US authorities in a swap deal for an American soldier held in Afghanistan for nearly five years. The five men were swapped for 28-year-old army sergeant, Bowe Bergdahl, who had been held by the Taliban since June 30, 2009. The prisoners were flown by US military C-17 aircraft into the Gulf on Sunday. They were named on Saturday as Mohammad Fazl, Mullah Norullah Noori, Mohammed Nabi, Khairullah Khairkhwa and Abdul Haq Wasiq. Th

40 Boko Haram Fighters Killed By Cameroon Soldiers

Image
The battle against the deadly Boko Haram sect recorded some level of success at Cameroon border on Sunday as their security forces killed about 40 Boko Haram fighters in the country’s far north. According to Cameroon state radio, the exchange of heavy gun fire occurred shortly after the release of two of the Italian priests and a Canadian nun suspected to have been held by the Islamist group. Cameroon, which has been criticised by Nigeria for not doing enough to fight the Nigeria-based terrorist group, deployed over 1,000 troops in the far north last week to tackle the killer sect and it is now paying off.

While speaking with a Vanguard  reporter before her hearing at the Kano state Juvenile court recently, Wasila said she been to three detention camps since she killed her husband and has not seen her mum. "I miss my mum who has not been allowed to visit me in a strange land. What, however, keeps me going is the fact that my family are with me at this critical point in my life, and I am highly comforted by their prayers. My dad and aunt visited me a few days ago and conveyed my mother’s message but the vacuum created by  her absence can not be filled by anyone. I have been receiving help from the people I did not know from Adam, I mean women who have shown concern, and cater for my nee

Jonathan’s Secret Negotiator Opens Up: Chibok Girls Very Sick

Image
The situation of our girls kidnapped by the deadly Boko Haram sect is going from bad to worst as some of them in custody of the group have taken ill, according to a prominent Australian cleric, Dr. Stephen Davis. Dr. Davis, a clergyman and hostage negotiator, according to the British newspaper, The Mail, was hired by the President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, to broker the release of the girls. In his words:  "One of that small group of girls is ill and we had hoped we might convince the commander of the group holding her that she should be released so we could give her medical treatment.  "There are other girls who are not well and we have come close to having them released but their captors fear a trap in which they will be captured in the handover process.  "One girl has what I assume is a broken wrist as they demonstrate to me how she holds her hand. I have been told that others are sick and in need of medical attention." Dr. Davis, who was once the C
