Image
FULL TRANSCRIPT OF REUBEN ABATI’S INTERVIEW WITH STATE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS ON THE SUNDAY PUNCH FRONT PAGE STORY OF APRIL 19, 2015 TITLED “JONATHAN DEMANDS N2tn ELECTION FUNDS REFUND, AUDIT” The front-page story of the  Sunday Punch  of April 19 alleging that the Presidency spent a whopping N2 trillion on the 2015 General elections, and that a Committee of Five has been set up by President Jonathan to conduct an audit of how the funds were disbursed by party members and state officials is mischievous, false and embarrassing. The President has not set up any committee as alleged in that story. It is also not true that the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party used state funds, or spent N2 trillion during the campaigns. The innuendoes are wrong-headed; the motives behind the story are suspicious.  The story alleges, for example, that the Presidency spent N2trillion on elections and embarked on a money-sharing spree to party members, support groups...

Mum of twins devastated as Instagram deletes her account for posting stretch mark pics

Image
A mother-of-two who posted pictures of her post-pregnancy stretchmarks on Instagram to inspire others was horrified after they were removed for breaching the site's decency guidelines. Hannah Moore, 20, of Broxburn in West Lothian, uploaded the snaps in a bid to boost her confidence and told her followers: 'Nobody should be judged by their size because everyone is beautiful'. Hannah says the blocking of her account has made her think her body is 'clearly fat, ugly and disgusting and it made people feel sick'.  'Two minutes after the picture was uploaded my account got closed down, my mouth just dropped and my eyes watered.I don't know why, it was out of the blue but I decided to post a picture of my belly on Instagram because I've had twins. 'I had written underneath the picture how unconfident I had always been, how relationships have been hard and how hard it is to find clothes that I like.''I want not just myself but other w...

PDP cheiftains demand Mu'azu's resignation

Image
After Peoples Democratic Party’s failure at the last general elections, top party men are calling for the resignation or removal of the party’s National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu.  PDP stalwarts who spoke with Sunday  Punch  said it behoves on Mua’zu to turn in his resignation letter even without since he had been unable to take the party to victory.  The PDP not only lost the presidential election to the opposition, All Progressives Congress, it also lost its National Assembly majority status and governorship seats including state Houses of assembly.  But the embattled national chairman, Mu’azu, has said he would not resign despite the loss of the party he leads.  Mu’azu said it was also wrong for anyone to call for the sacking of any member of the party’s National Working Committee because of what happened to the ruling party during the elections. PDP chieftains including a former National Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democr...

Open letter to Times Magazine on Shekau

Image
Dear times magazine,  Shekau is not influential in my country, the basis of this statement and ranking amongst the most popular positive great Nigerians you mentioned in that list makes it even more difficult for me to understand, how would you call a man who has killed over 15,000 of my people as influential? How would you call a man the world has called mad influential?  This is a man whose image has been generally of terrible reckoning and the you call him influential? I don't understand the basis for that, if you wanted a list of most influential wicked terrorists in the world, if shekau tops that list, I would never have any problems with that, I would understand if you compiled a list filled with members of ISIS, alshabab and other terrorist groups we Nigerians would understand that. Nigerians have converged together as one to hate this creature, our people have come together to make sure we normalize this situation. You put up some positi...

Woman with 2 husbands on the Run in Delta State(Photo)

Image
A woman from Delta State who effectively hid her adulterous relationship from her husband, Lekan Onipede, is now on the run after she viciously attacked him with boiling water and pursued him with a knife. The woman, Rosemary David, had a son for Onipede, a 31-year-old indigene of Ondo State, about 11 years ago, when he was 20. While still living with him under the concept of common law marriage, and in what would appear to be a case of polyandry, she allegedly hooked up with another man in Delta State and had two other children (a boy and a girl) with the man, and then passed them off as Onipede’s children. Over the years, David perfectly juggled the two ‘husbands’ in Ondo and Delta states, co-habiting with one or the other in a near seamless manner until the bubble burst, and set the stage for the heinous attack on Onipede after accusing him of adultery. The tale began when David who was living with her parents in Ore, Ondo State, got into a relationship...

'Why I’m not proud to call Buhari my president' - Femi Aribisala

Image
Vanguard columnist Dr. Femi Aribisala, in an interaction with Vanguard editors, explains why he is not proud to call president-elect, Gen. Buhari his president. Quite interesting. Read below... How did you come about your claim that INEC rigged the election for Buhari?   There are certain things that are interesting about this election. The first one is that it is one of the most keenly contested elections that we have had in this country. It involved more people. But 10 million less people voted than last time, which gives us some idea as to how true some of the figures we have been having before had been. But the question is: Where did the decline of 10 million come from? I discovered that it came disproportionately in certain areas than it did in others. And to some extent, if you look at the PVC distribution, you can project the election. It is because Buhari could campaign in the South, but the North didn't permit same kind of liberty for the president. ...
