Buhari didn't discuss SGF appointment with me - Onu

Image
“As one of the founding National Leaders of All Progressives Congress, APC, it is his conviction that nothing should be done to injure the rights of citizens to free speech, especially in a democracy. However, in the exercise of such rights, care and respect must be observed to ensure that it is done within the ambit of the law, guided by respect for the truth, good conscience and sincerity of purpose. “It is hoped that in all circumstances, more so in a democracy, the truth should not be twisted to serve pre-determined ends nor should the rights of individuals be muzzled to score cheap political points." With these words, former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, hammered home the point in his disappointment to being linked with rumours making the rounds in the country that he was consulted by President Muhammadu Buhari before the recent appointment of the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). The report, which first emanated from th

Pope Francis has called on catholic priests to pardon women who have abortions and the doctors who perform them, during the upcoming Jubilee year. The Pope's statement overrules the Catholic Church's doctrine which frowns strongly against abortion. In a message outlining special measures for the Jubilee year starting in December, Pope Francis said "I have decided, notwithstanding anything to the contrary, to concede to all priests for the Jubilee Year the discretion to absolve of the sin of abortion those who have procured it and who, with contrite heart, seek forgiveness for it. The tragedy of abortion is experienced by some with a superficial awareness... many others... believe that they have no other option"he said Pope Francis said he was "well aware of the pressure" that some women were under to abort, adding that he had "met so many women who bear in their heart the scar of this agonizing and painful decision".

Senator Sani said this while responding to the statement released by Fayose yesterday August 31st in which he, Fayose, described President Buhari as the President of Northern Nigeria. In his response, Senator Sani said “I recognise the fundamental rights of Ekiti state governor to freedom of expression. Fayose Threatens The Unity of Nigeria - Presidency Warns Nigerians

Image
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to the attacks on President Muhammadu Buhari by Ayo Fayose, Ekiti state governor over lopsided appointments. While Fayose defined the Buhari as running the country as if he was the president of northern Nigeria only, the president said the governor’s attacks were capable of generating ethnic clashes among the nation’s communities. It should be recalled that the governor on August 31 said steps taken by Buhari since he was inaugurated were tainted with ethnic and tribal coloration, saying it was unfriendly to the unity of Nigeria. However, the president answered strongly, rejecting the accusation, and advising Nigerians to be cautious of the tricks of Ekiti state governor and the Peoples Democratic Party, who he said are determined on regaining what they lost by stoking ‘ethnic and religious fault lines”. Presidency said the governor’s outburst was discordant and threatens the unity of Nigeria. G

Nigerian President or King of the North? by Femi Fani Kayode

Image
As written by Femi Fani Kayode "In 418 B.C. Herodotus, the Greek philosopher who is known as the ‘’father of history’’, said "a man who does not know anything about the events that took place before he or she was born will remain forever a child.’’ Not only was he right but one must go a step further by saying that those who refuse to learn from their history are condemned to repeating its mistakes. In 1957, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Saurdana of Sokoto and the Premier of the North, said the following: "We the people of the north will continue our stated intention to conquer the south and to dip the koran in the Atlantic ocean after the British leave our shores." Three years later, on 12 th October 1960, he went a step further by saying the following words to the Parrot Newspaper: “The new nation called Nigeria should be an estate of our great grandfather Uthman Dan Fodio. We must ruthlessly prevent a change of power. We must use the minorities in the North as
