A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday ordered the service of court papers on the Police Service Commission in Abuja in a suit seeking declaration that an Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu, is unfit to remain a police officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, The ex parte application for leave of court to serve the PSC outside of jurisdiction was brought before Justice Ibrahim Buba by a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN). Falana had on Thursday appeared in court and announced appearance as counsel representing the plaintiff, a lawyer, Mr. Tope Alabi, who filed the case. Alabi is urging the court to compel the Inspector General of Police and the Police Service Commission and the Attorney General of the Federation to immediately declare Mbu’s office with the Force vacant over alleged abuse of power. About 5 Kano Pillars players were seriously injured today March 5th after their vehicle was attacked by armed robbers along Abaji-Lokoja road around 1pm this afternoon. The armed robbers opened fire on the bus injuring some of the players. The injured players are; Ubong Ekpai, Gambo Muhammed, Eneji Otekpa, Adamu Murtala, and Reuben Ogbonnaya. Above is an injured Gambo Muhammed. The players were on their way to Owerri to play with the Heartland of Owerri for the Nigeria Premier League opener, when the incident occurred. No fewer than 68 people have reportedly been killed by Boko Haram members in a fresh attack in Dambua Local government area of Borno state. According to a civilian JTF Leader who spoke with Sahara Reporters, the sect members stormed Njaba village in Dambua Local Government area around 5.30am on Monday March 2nd, killing at least 68 men; from the elderly to children and then setting the entire village on fire. One of the villagers, Fatima Abakar while given an account of how they were attacked said "They came to our village at about 5:30am, during early Morning Prayer, so we started hearing heavy gunfire [then] there was pandemonium everywhere and gunshots and there was confusions everywhere. I ran into bush since then I never seen my husband and three children. [I] came back to our village in the afternoon dead bodies was scattered everywhere,” she said The Nigerian military has not reacted to this recent attacks by the sect members.

Four Nigerian political parties have threatened to pull out of the March 28 and April 11 elections if the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, refuses to suspend the use of card readers. The parties also called on the chairman of INEC, Attahiru Jega, to proceed on terminal leave, accusing him of exhibiting unprofessionalism and poor judgement. “Since Prof Attahiru Jega has shown lack of professionalism and good judgment in his actions so far in the conduct of the 2015 elections and since he has about three months to the end of his tenure as INEC Chairman, we the stakeholders urge him to quietly consider proceeding on terminal leave so that a more competent person can handle the current election process,” the parties said at a press conference Wednesday. The United States of America has banned the owners of Nigeria’s Amigo Supermarket and Wonderland from dealing with any U.S. person. In a statement, the United States Department of Treasury said it has frozen all property and assets owned by Fauzii Fawad, Mustapha Fawaz and Abdallah Tahini. All three men were also earlier named by the Joint Task Force, Kano, as members of a Lebanese Hezbollah group in Nigeria. The U.S. Department of Treasury said the trio and their companies have been issued Executive Order 133224 for acting for or on behalf of Hezbollah, a Lebanese group. The Federal Government on Thursday had a closed door meeting with parents and relatives of abducted Chibok schoolgirls, where it tabled plans to get the girls released from Boko Haram captivity. Over 200 girls were abducted from Government Secondary School, Chibok, on April 14, 2014 by the fundamentalist group, Boko Haram. In a press statement by the Special Adviser to Minister of State for Power (Hon. Mohammed Wakil), Olawale Rasheed, which was sent to the e-mail of our correspondent, it was disclosed that, at the meeting in Maiduguri on Thursday morning, the federal government, through it’s representative, told the parents how far it had gone in securing the release of the schoolgirls from captivity.
