The Peoples Democratic Party has said President Goodluck Jonathan is ready to face Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.) on March 28 for the Presidential election. While Jonathan is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Buhari is the candidate of the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress. The APC has alleged that both Jonathan and his party were planning to scuttle the elections as they were alleged not to be ready. The opposition party claimed that both the President and the PDP were afraid that they would be defeated during the election. Responding to this, the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, said that it would be foolhardy of anyone to say that President Jonathan was not ready for elections. He also debunked the claim that the ruling party and the president were sponsoring some lesser political parties to shift the elections, especially in the North-East.

A crowd beat to death a teenage girl accused of planning to be a suicide bomber and then set her body ablaze Sunday, according to police and witnesses at a northeastern Nigerian market. Accordng to AP,a second suspect, also a teenage girl, was arrested at Muda Lawal, the biggest market in Bauchi city. In Bauchi, the two girls aroused suspicion by refusing to be searched when they arrived at the gate to the vegetable market, said yam vendor Mohd Adamu. People overpowered one girl and discovered she had two bottles strapped to her body, he said. They clubbed her to death, put a tire doused in fuel over her head and set it on fire, he said. It seems doubtful the girl was actually a bomber as she did not detonate any explosives when she was attacked, said Police Deputy Superintendent Mohammad Haruna. He described her as the victim of "mob action carried out by an irate crowd."

Troops on cordon and search along Djimitillo Damaturu road axis on Friday night discovered a Boko Haram hideout near a market. The troops battled with the militants, killing a few of them and recovering machine guns and rifles. Some of the terrorists also died in the fire that gutted the house where they were hiding out at. Unfortunately, a soldier was killed and another one wounded. In Gulak, Adamawa State, troops in pursuit of terrorists caught up with some of them who were in the process of blowing up a bridge to deter troops advance. The troops are continuing with the cordon and search of the town and environs after overpowering the terrorists. A lot of arms have been recovered. Troops are also dismantling the terrorists group’s flags hoisted in the towns.

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council on Saturday condemned an alleged plot by the President Goodluck Jonathan-led Peoples Democratic Party to cripple the campaign of the party’s presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd). This was contained in a statement signed by the Director Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential campaign, Mr. Garba Shehu, in Abuja. He said the APC Presidential campaign condemned the plot by the Jonathan-led ruling Peoples Democratic Party to clip the electoral success wings of the opposition APC, through a proposed grounding of aircraft and freezing of bank accounts belonging to stalwarts of the party.
