Boko Haram Overwhelm Local Hunters and Vigilante Caused Mayhem In Kalabalge, Kill 40 Villagers

Image
A horde of armed Boko Haram terrorists today descended on Kalabalge, a community in Borno State whose vigilantes had recently repelled an attack by members of the extremist Islamist sect—and left a horrific scene, with at least 40 dead people and widespread destruction. A security agent and a community source told SaharaReporters that more than 500 Boko Haram fighters arrived in the town in numerous pick-up vans and were able to overwhelm local hunters and vigilante members within the community. Today’s attack by Boko Haram originated in Gamboru Ngala, a border town between Nigeria and Cameroon, and lasted for several hours. Our security agent source disclosed that the religious militants also attacked Ankulkule, Chekobe, Izge and five other communities. The source told SaharaReporters that some of the villages were completely burnt, adding that most of those who survived the horrendous attacks had fled to Cameroon to seek refuge. About a week ago, a group of local hunters and

Jonathan Did Not Promise Amnesty For Boko Haram – Presidency

Image
The Presidency on Saturday said there was nowhere in his speech on Democracy Day that President Goodluck Jonaathan declared amnesty for members of the Boko Haram sect. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said this while addressing State House correspondents. Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Boni Haruna, had on Thursday said Jonathan has announced amnesty for members of the Boko Haram sect as parts of his administration’s youths-friendly programmes and policies. While giving an overview of youth’s position in the present administration’s transformation agenda at a special event tagged “A day with young leaders of Nigeria” to mark the nation’s Democracy Day in Abuja, the minister said series of integration programmes have been lined up for members of the sect who would surrender their arms and embrace peace. But Abati said the President did not use any word like amnesty. He said what Jonathan said was that opportunity had been created

This happens yearly but nothing is being done about it. Is there anything the government can do about it though? Continue to see more photos...

Goodluck Jonathan Has Failed Many People, Not Just Me –OBJ

Image
When your godfather start telling you the same things that millions of Nigeria are saying - that you have not lived up to expectations as President - then you must check yourself immediately and ignore the sycophants around you who will always tell you what is sweet to your ears so they can continue to  shop  with you. This is the situation President Goodluck Jonathan is, as his benefactor, ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo, who is known for saying his mind no matter who is affected, has declared that Jonathan is failing Nigerians. Speaking on the State of the Nation on a TV interview, Obasanjo said Mr Jonathan lived in self-denial about the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls for more than two weeks. He insisted that action is very unfortunate.‬‪ Obasanjo said:  "The president did not believe that those girls were abducted for almost 18 days. If the president got the information within 12hours of the act and he reacted immediately, I believe those girls would have been rescued w

How Boko Haram Has Exposed Nigeria

Image
If a nation is at red alert, yet a terror group like Boko Haram strikes at will and ups the number of its victims, then such a country is obviously a cassava republic that cannot guarantee security of lives and property. While Aso Rock makes noise about the determination of the government to bring back the abducted Chibok girls and also to finally thumb Boko Haram, the group continues to strike audaciously as it pleases – in Borno (four times, with the recent killing of forty soldiers and policemen), Kano and Plateau (twice). It seems they want to prove that this government has no clue of what it is talking about. Boko Haram wants to tell Nigerians that we live at their mercy. And that our so-called leaders are only making speeches – as usual. Nigeria is now a laughing stock, especially among Africans, who had seen our country as a giant in the continent and had looked up to us for leadership. A Ghanaian, living in Berlin, had recently joked that they (Ghanians) never knew they wer

Girl Opens Up: My Boyfriend Made Me Dump Prostitution & Join Armed Robbery

Image
This what you get in a society where government doesn't make deliberate efforts to rescue the vulnerable. 24yrs old Sherifat Bakare, is a young lady one could describe at first glance as pretty. But as she sat on the ground in front of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Ogun State Police Command in Abeokuta, one cannot but imagine how deadly she might have been on operations with her robbery gang. “I was hustling before Raji, my boyfriend, told me to join his gang,” Bakare began. But When she was asked to elaborate on what she did as a “hustler,” she explained that she meant prostitution. “The gang asked me to sit in the front of the vehicle so that when we were stopped by policemen on the way, being a woman in the front seat would make them unsuspicious. But during the operation, the police cornered us and Raji was shot dead.” Bakare in company with four other members of her gang, were apprehended on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 by the men of Ogun State SARS, who had been on th

Found this story on  The Nation . So heartbreaking. Read below...  Helen (surname withheld) will be 20 years on October 10. But she now bears a burden that is too heavy for her age. She was gang-raped in January this year and was diagnosed with HIV last month. Due to the heart-rending experience and the medical diagnosis that followed, the once cheerful and vivacious Helen now wears a long face as she carries with her the psychological burden of the experience. After secondary school in 2008, Helen wanted to further her education, but being the fifth of 11 children comes with its own challenge. “Na the condition of no money, na im prevent me from going further,” said Helen when asked why she had not bothered to continue her education.   Despite her background, Helen was unperturbed. Determined that she would return to school some day, she began working as a cleaner in a big firm at Lekki, Lagos, from where she hoped to save for school. She had worked there for almost a year befo

Madam Dora Akunyili Dead or Alive?

Image
Many are worried and the tension increased on Friday evening when rumours of her death hit the cyber space but the reported death of former minister of information Prof. Dora Akunyili in an Indian hospital, where she was rushed to for medical attention, has been dispelled by her media aide, Mr Isaac Umunna. “I don’t know why people are peddling this rumour. It is baseless. And, as you may know, former governor Peter Obi only three days ago visited her in the hospital in India and he was received by her husband and her doctors who confirmed to him that she was responding to treatment.  "And, as I speak to you now, I just came out from the church. That was why I could not take your call earlier because I was in the church. If the rumour was true, I wouldn’t have been in the church now. And I have been in contact with them. I have been speaking with some of our people who are with her, and we spoke not long ago. So no such thing they are saying happened.” Umunna, who spoke to

BIG TROUBLE: Boko Haram Runs Out Of Food Supply

Image
There are indications that they need to feed the over 200 students of Government Secondary School, Chibok, that were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents on April 14 has put pressure on the Islamic terrorist group to steal food items and loot communities close to Sambisa Forest in the North East. The terrorist group had in the past week stepped up the looting of villages, markets and food stores in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states for food items. Now the villagers have started attacking and killing them. Some Boko Haram members met their waterloo in Madagali, Adamawa State, where they were given up by a local food vendor from whom they had planned to buy foodstuffs. The vigilante group pounced on them and killed over 70 while seven others were handed over to the police. A Madagali resident, who did not want his name mentioned, had said, “The vigilance group mobilised, laid ambush and waited patiently for the insurgents. As soon as the insurgents, numbering over 100, showed up in the v
