Army commandant killed in Ibadan school was neither shot nor stabbed' - Army authorities say

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Two Division, Brigadier General Chukwunedum Abraham, has dispelled rumors that the murdered commandant of the Command Secondary school in Apata, Ibadan, was neither shot or stabbed to death. Col. Anthony Okeyim pictured above, was on Monday December 12th, murdered at his apartment located within the school premises by suspected assassins. Speaking to newsmen during a visit to the school yesterday, Abraham said preliminary investigations showed that there was no gun shot wound nor stab wound on the body of the deceased commandant.  “There was hemorrhage from the nostrils and the mouth and impact wound to the jaw that was all. An audio tape purported to be Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, threatening to kill an INEC official in the just concluded rerun election for the state National Assembly, has surfaced online. In the audio tape which was shared by  Sahara Reporters , the man who SR claims is Governor Wike, in a telephone conversation, is heard arranging payments to INEC officials in exchange for their help to allegedly rig the election for PDP candidates in Etche, Khana, Ikwerre and other key local government areas in the state. Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, addressed a state broadcast yesterday night where he alleged that governors of Bauchi, Benue, Kano and Plateau States reportedly bankrolled donated one billion Naira each to fund the violence that characterized last Saturday's Legislative rerun election in the state. Mrs Omawumi Beatrice Udoh, member representing Warri South State Constituency 1 in the State House of Assembly died on Wednesday, December 14th, at a London hospital after a protracted illness. Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has expressed shock and sadness over the sudden demise of Mrs Udoh. In a statement issued on Wednesday in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, Okowa described the deceased as a committed, hardworking, patriotic and thorough-bred lawmaker who served the state and her constituents diligently. "The late Hon. Omawumi Udoh died when her services to the state and nation was most needed. We mourn our fallen lawmaker who gave her best in service to God and humanity. Immigration set to increase cost of Nigerian passport

Mr Muhammad Babandede, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, has disclosed that the cost of acquiring a Nigerian international passport is likely to rise in the nearest future. He made this revelation in Abuja at the flag off ceremony for the capacity building programme on Information Communication Technology organised for immigration officers in conjunction with Huawei Technologies Company. According to Babandede, “It is not easy for us to pay for booklets because of the cost. You will agree with me that air tickets have doubled in this country. You are aware that a lot of things have changed, but the passport fees have not changed.” He stated that Nigeria Immigration Service has written to the presidency to propose a hike and will proceed with a review of the price once approval is received. This proposed increase, Babandede revealed, will enable the agency to deliver better service.

A woman on Tuesday, December 13th, gave birth to two-headed baby at Med-In Specialist Hospital located at Oshogbo Street in Ogudu,Lagos. According to doctors at the hospital, the baby born around 6:30pm through an elective caesarean section, has two heads, a neck, chest, two legs and two hands. The mother and medics were expecting a set of twins as indicated by the various scans she underwent in the course of the pregnancy. According to one of the nurses who was in the delivery room, they had prepared two cots for each of the twins but were shocked when they saw that they were conjoined. "This is the first time I am seeing anything like this. I have watched it in movies but seeing it in real life was such an experience for me. Thankfully, the surgeon ensured that they survived. SENATE REJECTS MAGU AS EFCC CHAIRMAN

The Senate has rejected the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission by President Muhammadu Buhari, citing security report. The Senate’s spokesperson, Aliyu Abdullahi, revealed this Thursday afternoon after the Senators had spent over one hour behind closed doors discussing the matter of Mr. Magu’s confirmation. “The Senate wish to inform the public that based on available security report, the Senate cannot proceed with confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. “The nomination of Ibrahim Magu is hereby rejected and has been returned to the President for further action,” Mr. Abdullahi said. The Senate had slated today, Thursday, to screen Mr. Magu, now acting EFCC Chairman. (SR)
