FHC adjourns suit challenging deportation of Igbos to Feb. 10, 2015

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday adjourned till Feb. 10, 2015 hearing in a suit filed by seven persons deported by the Lagos State Government over alleged breach of their fundamental rights. The plaintiffs are Joseph Aniebonam, Osondu Mbuto, Osondu Agwu, Nnenna Ogbonna, Emily Okoroariri, Friday Ndukwe and Onyeka Ugwu. They filed the suit on behalf of themselves and 76 others against the Lagos State Government, claiming the sum of N1 billion as damages for breach of their fundamental rights. Joined as respondent are the Attorney-General of Lagos State and Commissioner of Police, Lagos State. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the case could not be heard when it resumed due to a notice of preliminary objection filed by counsel to the plaintiff. Find the EFCC Press statement below The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today, October 20, 2014 arraigned one Abubakar Abdullahi before Justice Dije Aboki of Kano State High Court on one count charge of criminal breach of trust. The accused, who is the manager of Maisabulu Bureau de Change, Kano, had sometime in April, 2013 upon the instruction of his employer, Alhaji Kabiru Maisabulu, the managing director of Maisabulu Bureau de Change purchased the sum of 50,000 United States dollars from the Central Bank of Nigeria on behalf of one Bello Sani Yakassai of Misau Bureau de Change but, converted the said sum for his personal use. The count reads: " That you Abubakar Abdullahi being the manager of Maisabulu Bureau de Change sometime in April 2013 in Kano within the judicial division of the High Court of Justice of Kano being entrusted with certain property to wit: the sum of $50,000.00 equivalent to the sum of N7,780,000.00 given to you by Ahaj

Akeem Shodeinde, the owner of popular Lagos nightclub, Movida, says he plans to shut down his popular club house and leave the club scene for a little while so he can concentrate on his health. Akeem has been battling kidney problems for a while now. In an interview with City People this week, Akeem, who survives on one kidney, said he had given his life to Christ but can't seem to be able to give up smoking and drinking... "Smoking is an addiction. I can't lie to God because if I lie, I am deceiving myself not anybody but I have been praying to God to stop which I believe I will soon stop. Military massacres 25 Boko haram members in Damboa despite ceasefire deal

No fewer than 25 members of Boko Haram were killed yesterday October 19th by troops of the 7th division of the Nigerian army after the sect members launched a fresh attack at Damboa LGA in Borno state. Damboa is the same town the sect captured in June but was recovered by the Military in August. Residents of the area said terrorists arrived around 5pm yesterday in seven Hilux buses and many motorcycles, and immediately started shooting at villagers. Fortunately, the military stationed in the area returned fire an killed many of the sect members... 11-year old girl gang-raped in Imo

An 11 year old girl was gang-raped in Obowo local council area of Imo State.The ugly incident happened when the girl known as Ngozi (surname withheld) was sent by her parents to buy a few of their food needs from the popular Onuimo Rescue Market, Umungwa, Obowo. Jeremiah Abasi Six-year-old Jeremiah Abasi was living with his parents in Ihiala area of Anambra State when his aunt, Onyebuchi Chibogu, decided to bring him to Lagos State to continue his education. However, in less than four months on Adidas Street, Olodi-Apapa area of the state, Jeremiah went missing after reportedly running an errand for his aunt’s neighbour. Police recover severed head of slain youth

The police have recovered the severed head of a 28-year-old man, Ibikunle Tunde, who was killed during the cult clash in Mushin and Fadeyi areas of Lagos State last week. The head was recovered on Ojelade Street, Fadeyi, on Thursday by security operatives from the Alakara Police Station. The deceased, who had been linked to a murder last Monday, was killed in an apparent reprisal. A resident said, “In the morning of Monday last week, a lottery agent, Sheriff Alasia, was killed. Tunde, who is believed to have been among the killers, was attacked on the night of that very day. He was shot several times while his head was chopped off. “His body was recovered by the police but his head remained missing for almost four days. The killers were playing with the head in the neighbourhood and we reported to the police. The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, on Monday said the Federal Government would review the N4, 000 online registration fee imposed on prospective corps members by the National Youth Service Corps. Speaking Monday on a Channels TV’s breakfast programme, Sunrise, Mr. Moro said the negative reactions that have trailed the policy has now necessitated a review. “Giving the reactions of Nigerians, whether it (the N4000 mobilization fee) is right or wrong is not the issue. It is whether it is acceptable,” Mr. Moro said in response to a question on the propriety or otherwise of the policy. “From the reaction we are getting, it is not unacceptable. I’m sure the authorities involved will review the situation.” The Director, Corps Mobilisation, Anthony Ani, had recently announced that corps members would now pay N4, 000 to download their call-up letters online.
