Synagogue building collapse survivor recounts ordeal

Image
A Nigerian man on Friday claimed that he spent over 24 hours under the rubble of a Lagos church building, blaming “Satan” rather than structural failure for the collapse believed to have killed at least 84 people. Taiwo Taiwo was among 131 people pulled from the remains of the guesthouse for foreign followers of preacher TB Joshua’s Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), which collapsed on September 12. All those who died came from South Africa, the government in Pretoria said. A week on, rescue workers were winding down search operations, after complaining that hostile members of the evangelical church prevented them from accessing the building in the first three days. Joshua, whose followers call him “The Prophet” or “The Man of God”, has rejected claims of lack of cooperation and linked the collapse to a low-flying plane seen in the area beforehand. Jeff Radebe, a South African minister in charge of Pretoria’s response to the disaster, said 349 South Africans ha

SEE The Nigeria’s Top Pastors In Trouble

Image
Counted among the wealthiest pastors in the world, Ayo Oritsejafor, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Prophet Temitope Joshua, of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of the Believers Love World, better known as Christ Embassy, all have something in common. They are frontline Nigerian clergymen who manage churches that boast of thousands of worshippers, sympathisers and admirers. Their words, most times, are hardly opposed by their church members and they are seen as God’s representatives on earth. For these pastors, however, the year 2014 has been quite turbulent in various ways. While some are battling with issues of their alleged inability to handle their families like they often preach, others are having to find as much convincing explanation as they could over their involvement in allegations of money laundering, which are yet to be proven against them. For some of these big pastors, however, this is not the fir

Nigerian government, Red Cross in secret negotiation with Boko Haram over Chibok girls - Premium Times

Image
Despite the Nigerian government’s public rejection of any prisoner swap with extremist Boko Haram sect, its officials, alongside the Red Cross, are currently in talks to trade Boko Haram militants for more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls abducted by the sect in April, the U.K. Telegraph reported Friday.  The report said Red Cross officials have held secret negotiations with top Boko Haram leaders held in Nigeria’s maximum security prisons and a list of 16 senior commanders the sect wants freed in exchange for the girls, has been drawn up.  Boko Haram insurgents kidnapped over 200 girls from their school dormitory in Chibok on 14 April.  The abductions alarmed the world triggering massive campaign to secure their freedom with the United States, United Kingdom and France and other countries offering technical support.  The efforts have remained futile more than five months after as the girls remain in captivity. Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, threatened to sell some int

Gay-friendly mosque opens quietly in South Africa

Image
Against a global background of rising Islamist militancy a new mosque where gay people are welcome, Christians too, and women are treated equally to men opened peacefully in Cape Town on Friday despite threats of violence. Launched by Muslim academic Taj Hargey, the South African-born director of the Muslim Educational Centre of Oxford, the first Friday prayers at the ‘Open Mosque’ drew more media crews than worshippers or protesters. Police were on hand in case of trouble outside the newly-painted green mosque, a former panel beating workshop sandwiched between two similar motor vehicle repair operations on a backstreet in the Wynberg suburb. While a handful of protesters told AFP they were waiting for reinforcements and would “stop this thing, no matter what”, the Friday prayers went ahead largely unhindered apart from the occasional protester’s cry of “You will go to hell”. Hargey has described his mosque as a “religious revolution” following on from the political revol

Adorable momemt 3 yr old interrupts homecoming procession to hug his mother after her 9month tour of Afghanistan

Image
This is the adorable moment a 3 year old boy ran into the arms of his mother after not seeing her for months as she and other soldiers stood in line waiting to finally be dismissed so they could re-unite with their families after serving in Afghanistan for 9 months.   As soldiers stood in line, 3 year old Cooper Waldvogel ignored the strict military protocol, ran up to the troops and into his mother's arms, who was so happy to scoop him up. Other soldiers tried to keep straight faces because they'd been ordered not to interact with family members as they stood in line, but they later said it was the most adorable thing they'd ever seen. See the photos below 25 year old Kathryn Waldvogel,  a member of the National Guard, told USA Today; "I was longing to hold him, that's all I thought about. It just melts my heart'.

Gabonese Fans Were Shouting “Ebola Nigeria” During Our Match-Eaglets Players

Image
Nigeria' Flying Eaglets football players have recounted the ordeal faced by the team in the ill-fated encounter with their Gabonese counterparts, one that prompted the NFF to report the West African country to the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Nigeria lost the controversial match 2-1 in Libreville, but faced a very hostile reception by Gabonese fans and football officials due to the recent Ebola outbreak. The first incident occurred when Nigeria's team of 18 players and six officials were left embarrassed when the airline they boarded informed them that Gabonese authorities had instructed that they be offloaded from the aircraft alongside their luggage, even though CAF had given Nigeria a free pass regarding the virus. “Even on getting to Libreville, we were warned not to even eat their food because of their hostile nature, which we later saw on match day," defender Halilu said. "We were robbed because of bad officiating by the referee and

Pres. Jonathan lacks the experience to lead Nigeria- Atiku Abubakar says

Image
Former Vice President and APC presidential aspirant Atiku Abubakar said in an interview with AFP today that President Jonathan lacks the experience to lead Nigeria, saying it's the reason Boko Haram activities has been on the increase. "This insurgency shouldn’t have lasted even six months. Within weeks, we (Obasanjo and I) crushed it because we did not neglect military training and, of course, we did not lack the leadership and the capacity to take decisions. I told Nigerians that he [Jonathan] did not have the capacity; he didn’t have the experience. He didn’t have anything and yet they gave him the chance, the opportunity. And they can now see the chance and the opportunity they gave him. Of course, I’m more experienced than he is. I believe my capacity cannot be compared with his, in all respect.” he said

The workers were killed while out creating awareness and distributing flyers about Ebola. David Cameron's Scotland Speech: A Translation

Image
Translated: the highlights of David Cameron's speech following Scotland's decision to remain part of the UK... The people of Scotland have spoken. It is a clear result. They have kept our country of four nations together. Like millions of other people, I am delighted. Thank f*** for that. As I said during the campaign, it would have broken my heart to see our United Kingdom come to an end. As it became clear during the final weeks of the campaign, it would have broken my heart to see my premiership come to an end. And I know that sentiment was shared by people, not just across our country, but also around the world… And I know that sentiment was shared by people, although not half of the Scottish people... So now it is time for our United Kingdom to come together, and to move forward. So now it is time for all the Yes voters to shut up. A vital part of that will be a balanced settlement – fair to people in Scotland and importantly to everyone in Engl
