I knelt and begged him, yet he slaughtered my daughter in my presence – Mother of MTN worker murdered by suitor

Image
The inch-long scar on the neck of 53-year-old Mrs. Christiana Ashinwo, is one of the physical reminders of the horror of Sunday, April 24, 2016. She sat on a chair quietly in the sitting room of a house in Agbado area of Lagos, which she built with the sweat and suffering of many years as a single mother and plank vendor. Her head was bowed when our correspondent went to meet her. But when Mrs Ashinwo looked up, her eyes were glazed with a faraway look that would easily giveaway the fact that she could have witnessed trauma, great trauma that she obviously had yet to recover from. Who would blame her? Watching her daughter killed before her presence, is enough to give her chills every moment for the rest of her life. The horrific incident she witnessed and survived few months ago in Kwara State remains so fresh on her mind. Our correspondent had reported on April 30 how Mrs. Ashinwo and her daughter, 30-year-old Oluwatosin Ashinwo, an employee of MTN in Ilorin, Kwara

How dark forces are hijacking EFCC powers — Ibrahim Magu

Image
The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, on Friday said some dark forces had been busy hijacking the powers given to the anti-graft agency to battle economic and financial crimes in the country. Mr. Magu stated this while presenting a paper titled “This Is Our Chance’’ at the Symposium organized by members of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers, NADL, in Lagos. “When these dark forces gather (as they have), our expectation is that bodies such as the National Association of Democratic Lawyers would rise up, without any further prompting and come to our rescue,” the EFCC chairman said. “The tug-and-pull for the soul of the EFCC aptly mirrors that for the control of the destiny of our dear nation.” Mr. Magu did not provide details of those he said were gathering and scheming to appropriate the functions and powers of his commission. He however vowed that his agency would counter the dark forces and ensure

Why Should You Put Onions In Your Socks Before Going To Bed?

As you probably already know, the bottom of your feet contains powerful and direct access points to the internal organs in your body. In the Chinese medicine these points are called meridians. These so called meridians represent pathways to each organ within your body. Many people are skeptical about these beliefs. However, those who understand Chinese medicine know that the meridian system is very closely correlated with the nervous system. In order to understand the Chinese medicine, it is very important for you to know that there is a great number of different nerve endings located on the feet (approximately 7,000 meridians) which can be linked directly todifferent organs. These meridians act as very powerful electrical circuits in the body. However these meridians are often inactive. This is because we wear shoes all the time and in the same time we don’t use acupuncture in order to encourage the meridians or the nerves. That is why walking barefoot is hig

Chibok girls: FG begins swop moves

Image
There are indications that the Federal Government has begun moves to exchange the Chibok girls with some Boko Haram detainees. Saturday PUNCH gathered that as part of the moves, security agencies had started conducting a fresh profiling of the Boko Haram detainees in line with a directive of the Federal Government. It was learnt the profiling would include the time they were arrested and the de-radicalisation programme they had undergone. Findings showed that besides the military, the police, the Nigeria Prison Service, the office of the National Security Adviser and the Ministry of Justice would be involved in the swop talks. It was gathered that although the government had not decided on the militants that would be released in exchange for the Chibok girls, insurgents, who had not been tried could be the first beneficiaries of the swop deal. It was also learnt that detainees, who had undergone the “de-radicalisation” programme of the government, would be c
